lucy and kipps scene changed my brain chemistry. the whole chapter i was like ohhh my god he’s dead theres too much forshadowing he’s dead. worst day ever!!! how could you do that to my fav. had to set my book down before i could continue the next chapter like wdym lucy’s calling him quill and he is choosing to walk into death hand in hand with her what the fuck do you mean. oh, god. what else is there to say? it’s okay. take my hand, lucy, and let’s go. there’s nothing else to say. he was already falling. LIKE WHAT.

thinking about this still I’m never getting over it. something about “take my hand, lucy, and let’s go.” take my hand. It’s such a gentle way to put it. she’s the one who is hesitating, not him. he’s the one who is guiding them both to the end. to his end. the pause around her first name. they used to dislike each other, she still calls him kipps. this is the first scene I can remember where she calls him quill — it’s the vulnerability of first names. and let’s go. go where?? to the end. the very end. as a conjuction. it’s not even deserving of it’s own sentence, kipps values it that little. that’s not what’s important here. it’s just what’s going to happen next, as it must. taking his hand is the action of the scene. that’s where the real story is. take his hand, lucy, and go with him. let’s go? onward and onward and onwards. go where? Not the important part. The important part is that they’re going together. take his hand.
