Alex Summers/Havok Reading List
"how about alex"
ORIGINS AND NONSENSE LIKE THAT
Uncanny X-Men (1969) Issues #54-57 - Alex graduates from 1960s college and oops he's a mutant. Late bloomer i guess. White pharaoh nonsense abounds! - why read? good for completionists I guess. explains how his powers work. classic x-men angst - why not? sometimes 60s stuff gets annoying and it doesnt really "sell" you on the character.
Uncanny X-Men (1969) Issues #57-59 - alex gets kidnapped by trask. meets lorna. ugly suit first appearance. - why read? good for completionists. bobby girlfriend stealing incident #1. - why not? kinda boring. again doesn't really "sell" you on havok. ugly suit.
OUTBACK BEGINNINGS
If you want to understand what the deal is with this x-men team you're going to have to go back to Uncanny X-Men (1987) Issue #215. Otherwise:
Uncanny X-Men (1981) Issues #218-219 - alex and lorna being cute and in love. issue 219 almost entirely about alex. first appearance of lorna as malice, i think - why read? great for alex/lorna. He spends a decent amount of time not in that ugly costume. another one of my favorite characters, longshot, is there. - why not? usual claremont nonsense.
Issue 220 is a lore issue entirely about Storm and Forge. Skippable if you're only reading for Alex.
Uncanny X-Men (1981) Issues #221-226 - alex learns that his brother divorced maddie and took the kid. alex meets malice. alex goes for a run for the first time on panel. (shirtless) alex and maddie meet. val cooper and the freedom force lore information (important for later). this is a long arc. - why read? alex's most impactful time on the x-men. lots of "firsts" in this bit. - why not? ugly costume. the whole time. claremont nonsense.
227 and 228 don't have much Alex. But 227 is lore important.
Uncanny X-Men (1981) Issues #228-232 - outback begins! alex is on this x-men team that some consider one of the best of all time. Psylocke is there too! 232 is skippable if you're in a hurry.
Uncanny X-Men (1981) Issues #233-238 - alex development arc! alex forced to kill some aliens! lots of maddie development too. lots of alex looking sad. 235 starts the genoshan magistrates arc, which is a pretty basic arc with not that much havok. you should probably read it regardless though. Skippable if you don't gaf about genosha.
INFERNO
Uncanny X-Men (1981) Issues #239-243 - inferno! alex/lorna AND alex/maddie all in one place. This is VERRRRY important. Even the issues without lots of alex are vital for maddie's character later. - why read? ummmm EVERY REASON. also slutty goblin prince havok. that's probably the MOST important reason. that's issue 242 if you need that info. - why not? might be an uncomfortable read. implied sex and torture and characters mind controlled into evil. you should read it regardless.
Inferno Tie-ins:
X-Factor (1986) Issues #38-39 - Alex and scott BEEF for the first real time. and the whole time in the slutty outfit. GODLY issues. Mr. Sinister and alex for the first time. Alex insults scott to get him mad it's PERFECT. - why read? ^^^ - why not? no reasons for this. read these.

Uncanny 244 is a cute story about the girls on the team. not havok related.
Havok and Wolverine: Meltdown (1989) (ALL) - short series not available on Marvel Unlimited. decent story, great art. not that important if you want to speed through things. mostly alex being a hopeless romantic. - why read? great art. alex shows off his romantic chops. - why not? might be boring. wolverine is there. not really all that vital. hard to find.
Uncanny X-Men (1981) Issues #245-251 - havok depression era begins. 248 is really important because he thinks he kills storm. lots of alex happening in these pages. BACK ON THE GROUND (WITH TRON COSTUME)
X-Men Legacy (2008) Issue #259 - alex and scott conversation. typical alex-scott conversation. - why read? just a little bonus material before we start x-factor investigations. shows you what 2010's scott is going to look like. - why not? nothing of real importance.
X-Factor (2005) Issues 230, 233-2 - havok is back with x-factor investigations. you might need some context for the rest of the stuff happening. 230 just has alex and lorna showing up as an end tease. 231 & 232 are madrox-only issues. 236 & 237 has no alex (or alex of value). lots of stuff happens here. alex and lorna break up again. - why read it?
