My first time operating CCTV cameras I was handed control over what was essentially 50 independently moving eyes that collectively covered an area about the size of a football field and from that experience I now know that
Suddenly having 50 moving eyes can make you disoriented and barfy and the adjustment period sucks ass
It takes both more and less time than youβd think to figure out what the structure as a whole looks like and where those eyes ARE
After you get used to it the entirety of the structure itself and all of the eyes you can see from feels like an extension of your nervous system in a very bizarre way. Like I have dreams now from the perspective of A Building and Iβm not sure how to describe that.
Once you are aware of an unreachable blind spot it nags at you constantly and you can feel it like a hard little lump under your skin you need to poke and scratch at and itβs ardghgguychgghhbhhhbhhh
And on top of that, having operated CCTV at multiple locations now- my favourite and most comfortable one having excess of 60 cameras- it can be REALLY hard to suddenly jump to a different operating interface and display configuration, because all the muscle memory is wrong
On my COMFORTABLE system, the one I spent the longest time on, I never had to think about what code I needed to punch in. If I needed to watch a specific person, I could follow them all over the site without thinking about it.
Now at a different location, all the manual equipment and codes and lag and resolution are different, and it feels like going from playing the piano to driving stick shift on the left side of the road with my feet
The closest I imagine I can equate it to is like. Getting really really good at painting with a pair of prosthetic hands, and then suddenly having them swapped out with someone elseβs
Not the best depiction, but. Feels like this
I love how many people read my work posts and tag it βbody horrorβ, βeldritchβ, βscience fictionβ, βMurderbotβ, βMagnus archivesβ, βOP is a cyborgβ
While all the people with security & surveillance experience are chilling in the notes like
To be clear I love it. I love that weβre all living in our own little adventures

I was so into this sequined, romantic, 1920s-inspired vibe as a teenager. I still think it looks beautiful.

I wasnβt built to be employed. I need to stay up until 4 am like a normal person
i can't explain it, but the older you get, the more you realize that the hornier, filthier the music is, the better it is for cleaning. it is not good for sex. it's good for cleaning. if it's breathtakingly misogynistic? even better. i'm sorry, Hollywood Undead, i'm sure you think Everywhere I Go was written to fuck to while blown out on a couple lines of coke, but you're wrong. it's for Fabuloso and industrial grade cleaning vinegar and degreaser. the only daddy here is Scrub Daddy. sorry.
missing someone is crazy because youβll have dreams that r like βwe went on a nice walk together :)β and youβll wake up feeling like youβre gonna throw up

dislike how many mental health posts on here are just "you've never done anything wrong in your life ever and they were evil for that"
maybe you did do something wrong. maybe you hurt someone. maybe you have said awful things. maybe you were just as bad as them. maybe. but what matters is that you move on. you have to try. you have to wake up and be kinder. you have to learn and listen and grow. maybe you did do something wrong but that doesn't mean you have to keep doing that. as long as you are alive, you can change
hey. listen. when you use too much detergent in your laundry you aren't making your clothes cleaner, you are making them degrade faster. the machine isn't able to rinse out the entire cup of soap you put in, so some of it is left in the fibers of your clothes. when they dry this makes the fabric stiffer and more brittle, so the fibers are more likely to erode and break. over time this makes your clothes wear out much faster than if they were properly rinsed with minimal soap. you are wasting money by overusing detergent, not just on the detergent itself but the clothes you are shortening the lifespan of.
you are also ruining your clothes by cramming too many into the wash at once. the machine washes them by agitating them and rubbing them together but if they're crammed in there there's more friction. so they're less likely to get clean and they're wearing each other out. don't use tiny loads of laundry bc that's a waste of water but focus on medium sized loads with only a tablespoon or two max of laundry detergent.
you can also hang up your cotton shirts to dry to prevent them from shrinking in the dryer, and to maximize the lifespan of printed graphics on your shirts or sweatshirts. this saves electricity and keeps your clothes nicer for longer.
fabric softener is a scam, you don't need it because most detergents come with a softening agent already. dryer sheets are handy to minimize static in the dryer, but you can get a reusable wool ball that does the same purpose so they're not necessary either.
use bleach detergents sparingly, only if you notice your whites becoming stained or dingy. using bleach on every load of whites will degrade them.
also most of the time you really only need to wash with cool water. unless something is really soiled, (especially with something greasy, remember heat melts and removes grease,) cold water works just fine for day to day dirty clothes.
that's all
can we send up a quick thank you to pdf uploaders, torrent seeders, copy sharers, scanlators, fansubbers, digitizers, paywall dodgers, and various other internet archivers for making niche art and information more accessible in a media landscape where all but the most profitable mainstream are often tossed aside and left to rot

ideal living situation is what i call the 'sitcom special' : having all your closest friends live in the same apartment building or neighborhood where you each have your own space but can wander in and out of eachothers homes at will, seemingly always welcome and never at bad times. and also all of you only have jobs when its important to the plot.
