So, Iām an asexual and I have a girlfriend, but I was wondering if my asexuality is the reason why I am sometimes uncomfortable with physical contact from her (hand holding, hugging, sleeping next to each other)? Is this common for asexuals?
It certainly can be. Lotās of asexuals have trouble with certain kinds of physicalĀ contact. Iām a sex-repulsedĀ ace myself and there are days when I hate being touched at all.
Iād recommend talking your girlfriend about it, explaining how you feel and that there are certain times when you donāt want to be touched or certain touches that you donāt like. Make sure she knows itās nothing sheās doing wrong just what you feel and set up some boundaries and some lines of communication so you can let her know when touch is okay and when it isnāt :D
And always remember, you donāt need a reason or an excuse to say you donāt want to be touched beyond the fact that you simply donāt want to be touched. Your boundaries are valid whether or not they stem from being ace :D
