Oh yes, many many many many.
- Shirokokuro’s fics, such as ‘The Bat's Out of the Bag’, not only introduced me to the fandom but also truly left such an impression. Their fics will always hold a special place in my heart.
- Lurkinglurkerwholurk’s fics, such as ‘Emergency Contact’, still fuck me up and made me realize I love to lean more towards the Bruce & Tim dynamic. (You go, Lurker)
- ‘Stargazer’ by LemonadeGarden. Their writing and character portrayal made me realize how interesting each batfam dynamic really is and truly fucked me up for a loooong time. It also made me realize I would never be able to write Jason because their portrayal of him is just THAT GOOD
- As time went by I was introduced to other amazing authors and their fics, some of whom are now my close friends :’) they inspire me daily
What do you remember about writing your first posted fic? I watched RotG in cinemas and went feral. I then got a laptop and started tippy typing.
Is there a fic or fics you’re most proud of, and why? I’m really proud of Unshaken, even though it’s not finished yet. I put so much time into the chapters that are posted and I am really happy with how they came out. I am having such a hard time rereading them though which is why the fic is on hiatus atm
Is there a fic you would redo completely if you could? Host of Hastur. Even though the experience was fun, I wish I’d written it outside of a big bang since the ending is so rushed and I feel like I didn’t do the idea “justice”. The artists were so fucking amazing which made the entire journey worth it, I’m just not happy with my own commitment.
Is there a specific detail (setting, interaction, quirk, dialogue) you stole from your own life to use in a fic? Oooooo. Well, I have a masters degree in forest science and thus have spent many summers alone out in the middle of nowhere for work. I took the emotions I sometimes felt during the rougher days and put them in Unshaken when Tim wakes up in the cornfield. Good times :)
Is there a line in your fic that makes you smile/snicker/chuckle every time you remember it? This question made me realize I literally do not include any humor in my fics 😅 I guess Anakin and Obi-Wan’s banter is kinda fun in chapter 4 of ‘Put Your Head On My Shoulder’. That’s as close to comedy as you can get lmao (and that fic is pretty angsty).
Is there a line in your fic that makes you sad every time you remember it? “Sleep, Jay-lad.” from cardboard box is rough :( the ambiguous ending is also so evil and it makes me even sadder wondering how Tim reacted to Bruce’s words.
Are there any story ideas you’ve considered but are too nervous/intimidated to attempt? What are they? I am really bad at writing Damian’s pov which is why cardboard box is taking ages to write a sequel to. He’s such an interesting character and I cannot for the life of me find his inner voice without him sounding like a cartoon villain (which he kinda does but you know what I mean). I want to do that kid justice I guess, and not just make him a one-dimensional angry kid.
