Because we don't typically make a big deal out of the fact that we're atheists who are volunteering. We do the volunteering because it's the right thing to do, not because of wanting praise or recognition or wanting to convert people.

I've been volunteering on and off since I was 11/12 (I'm 35 now) in all sorts of different positions. My resumé's section on volunteering is longer than my paid work experience.

When I was 12, I raised money for the local youth homeless shelter.

In elementary and jr high I was part of my local public library's teen advisory group (we helped plan and execute programming, gave suggestions of new material for the library to get, etc).

In jr high, I helped my mom's elderly friend learn how to use an ereader and how to download ebooks.

In uni, I spent a portion of my weekends as a volunteer barista at a local nonprofit coffeeshop run by volunteers for the community.

By which I mean, more confident, more bossy, and more impulsive.

And actually have more implications/confirmation gangle has bi-polar? And maybe seeing how she might harm others/herself? Like I love my girl, but I wish we could see more of her manic/hypomanic self? If Gangle were bi-polar, she wouldn’t have any medicine for her take. So that means her episodes are gonna be more extreme, at least I think thats how it works?

And confirm she’s suicidal, make her INTENTIONALLY jump in front of the truck while wearing the manic mask, because during a manic episode you’re more impulsive

I wish we could see the other characters flaws more. OUTSIDE of jax.

Atheism and secular humanist spaces are absolutely not free of bigotry, BUT

A religion not being Christian does not necessarily absolve it from having systems of control that are worth critiquing, AND
