@9ofspades Hmm, it's not in Something More Than Honor nor even in the sequel. I thought I'd written it at least once in one, but may have rewritten it as a "mutter"--
āMost of them,ā she muttered, perhaps not intending him to hear
might have been a "mumble" in a past draft, but the angry note of muttering is also intended.
Chapter 9 of The Heir has
Cat muttered a promise to get him up when she rose.
which is probably not an angry enough line to be "mutter" instead of "mumble," unless Cat's grumpy about getting up early (one relates!)
Unnatural Means has no muttering or mumbling - my characters articulate themselves, I guess. Unnatural Lessons has some fun bits of muttering:
āGods fuck me,ā Sain muttered, pulling free of a branch.
āIāve had time to think about pain,ā Isak muttered.
Isak muttered another thanks before devouring the breakfast in one mouthful.
āAn animal trail,ā he muttered, coming abreast of Isak.
But again, no mumbling!
Lots of synonyms/adjacent words! Now Iām curious how often āparsleyā, ārosemaryā, or āthymeā show up >:)
