Enough fanfiction where a guy emotionally neglects his wife because he’s gay. We need more of guy emotionally neglects his wife and then emotionally neglects his boyfriend because he sucks
jesse and walter are very humbert and lolita if you think abt it, they play out a lot of the same plot beats in their relationships:
-planned pseudo-incest: humbert meets dolores & marries her mother to get closer to her and groom dolores, walt is jesse’s former teacher & seeks him out as a protégée/son figure and begins to groom him.
-inadvertent killing: humbert gets dolores’ mother killed, walt gets jane killed, both leave them to die and comfort dolores and jesse during their grief afterwards
-vengeance on abductors: walt kills todd and the brotherhood after they kidnap jesse, humbert kills clare quilty after he kidnaps dolores, both are very hypocritical in their care for jesse and dolores and mirror their abductors
-manipulation: both walt/humbert gaslight and withhold information from jesse/dolores to control them and keep them dependent. dolores and jesse are young and emotional while walt and humbert are calculating academics that use this status and education as part of their power over jesse and dolores
-doting fathers: both humbert and walter hide behind the personas of kind, caring fathers to get away with their crimes and use these roles to further manipulate and control dolores and jesse
-father-husband: both walt and humbert blend the roles of a father and a husband in their relationships w jesse and dolores, projecting their feelings and relationships with their wives onto jesse and dolores and treating them like their children, in walt’s case projecting his relationship with his own son onto jesse during the time jesse is estranged from his parents and in humbert’s case he literally becomes dolores’ step-father and primary guardian.
Everything has an end

All of the evil shit walter white did in breaking bad is masterfully foreshadowed in the first episode when we're shown that he's the kind of man who names his son after himself.
breaking bad (literally)
jesse pinkman was walter white’s mistress and son and best friend and business partner and wife and ex student and greatest enemy
So true bestie! Truly the 6-in-1 shampoo/conditioner/bodywash of toxic relationships
everytime walter killed someone in front of jesse to save him and then they looked at each other i expected for a hot second the scene to change to show them fucking right next to the bodies but it never happened:/

best thing a male character can do is be dog-coded. second best thing a male character can do is sob hysterically
Breaking Bad 2.13 “ABQ”
“Why didn’t you report him to the police? Why are you making excuses? What’s wrong with you – don’t you want to get out of this situation? The answer, often, is that people don’t get out because they truly feel like they can’t.
It’s the same reason we’ve seen both Skyler and Jesse dissolve into semi-fugue states: They’re trapped, and worse, they’ve been stripped of the will to fight. They’re tarantulas in glass jars with holes poked in the top so they can breathe, alive but paralyzed, with no way out. Think of the way dogs skirt around the edge of an invisible fence at the edge of a yard even after the electric current has been turned off. There’s nothing stopping them, really, except that the idea of leaving has become impossible.” — Wired
"I saved your life, Jesse. Are you gonna save mine?"
There is no need for them to giggle so much around each other, yet they do-perhaps they simply can’t resist. It’s as if they feel most alive in each other’s company, with someone they are not afraid to be seen by. They exist for one another, as if they are the only one they’ve ever found who gives them what they needed the most.

Jesse listening about Walt’s death and his reaction is something that stays with you. He is trying to listen, you can see that. He is not blocking it out on purpose. But at the same time he looks numb, like the words are reaching him but not fully settling. His expressions sit in between everything. Not relief. Not anger. Not even proper grief.
What I find so distinct is that he doesn’t look satisfied. After everything Walt did, after all the damage, you would expect at least some kind of release. But there is none. It’s almost like hearing it doesn’t free him. It just reminds him.
The person he admired, the one he went through so much with, is gone. And it’s not the death itself that hurts him. It’s what that person became. It’s the betrayal mixed with the memories. It’s caring so deeply about someone who also destroyed you.
He is sitting there and it feels like he can’t even properly process it because the pain is layered. It’s not “he is gone.” It’s “the man I once looked up to crushed my soul.” And when someone does that, their death doesn’t fix anything.
And so he shuts it off. Because thinking of him, whether as good or bad, is not something he can afford anymore. Either way, it will haunt him now and forever. So he doesn’t choose anger. He doesn’t choose grief. He just disconnects. He is left with no real capability to react.
