walt forgetting that jesse graduated from high school in "el camino" when he's just blindly lecturing him as to what he should do with his life is such a good detail because it shows that for all the time that walt and jesse have spent together and will continue to spend, walt never takes a genuine interest in jesse's life unless there's an aspect of it he can exploit or weaponize. he doesnt see the people in his life as humans who have a relationship with jesse. when combo dies, walt exclusively refers to him as an "employee" or a "dealer", not acknowledging that combo was above all one of jesse's friends. he continually refers to jane as his "stripper girlfriend" despite knowing Nothing about her, let alone her profession: walt's impression of jesse is that he doesnt have the capacity for a deep, meaningful relationship and especially not with someone who has a career or life that walt views as worthy ("stripper" being the lowliest profession a person could have in walt's eyes). walt doesnt bother to learn much about andrea, but he learns enough about brock to carry out his poisoning plan. walt learns more about jesse and his opinion of him does change, but at the end of the day, walt's view of jesse begins and ends with His Own Reading: jesse's richer inner-world and life outside of the "business" are negligible, unimportant. jesse exists only as walt sees him, unbeholden to his past or his feelings. jesse is unmotivated, lacking discipline, poorly educated: of course he never graduated from high school. high school jesse began and ended in walt's chemistry class and didnt exist to walt again until he fell from that window.
