I’m at a point where I’m overthinking this one/1 song that just sucks so much but is popular for edits and animatics… where I’m just thinking about how I could rewrite it to fix it. This is just me being a critic, I don’t like writing or have a deeper interest or knowledge in music creation, but I just think I could do it at least for this one song. 🤔💭
Y’know those angsty OCs or headcanons where people want a character to have this super niche insecurity about their demon alien tail markings eyes (insert any random body part) that makes them look sick/cool as hell? Because it’s more cool to seem humbling and have a tragic backstory even though it’s basically only for flaunting a character design people think is rad and not at all ugly?
I just feel like people love microdosing the aesthetic of body dysmorphia without actually discussing dysmorphia. Like, that tall girl movie made a huge point about being discriminated against for being tall… which sounded ridiculous. The ironic part is that the actor actually did get a demeaning situation that body shamed her height on a beauty pageant drama show.
People are sooooooooooooooooo close 🤏 the tiniest push ever and they’ll get there
i think it’s really cool that a popular media primarily depicts a pre-transitioned/closeted trans coded/subtextual character in its canon.
This is why indie animation is cool. They can’t censor that stuff. People that actually care and know about the topic don’t need to PSA mansplain/explain sanitized dysphoria with a clear cut “oh noes! My whole personality is being trans! 😱 ougha booga!” or the other caricature stereotypes thingy of course.
While I really enjoy Batman and The Signal and it’ll always have a warm place in my heart, I feel like a huge miss-step it makes is that it doesn’t realize that Duke Thomas’ main conflict is at its best when it’s a conflict between himself and his personal desires and wants vs his need to serve and protect his community. Like throuought WAR this conflict shows up again and again to remind us that these are kids and this is their home they’re fighting to protect, and these facts kinda clash but they’re inevitable and necessary, and that’s a huge part of what makes WAR so compelling
So dropping his community connections like they did in Batman and the Signal was so weird, and dare I say, shows that (at least at the time) Scott Snyder didn’t really *get* Duke Thomas, but I digress.
Like Dukes internal conflict with his powers should and would never be that it makes him different from the Batfam, it would be that it separates him from his community. That Gnomon’s actions made people distrust him, view him as a deceiver or liar! That would crush him, and complement the racial themes of his character really well imo, it’s messy and interesting! You could even have Duke confront Gnomon about this and have a discussion about race with an immortal being who could have a different perception of the topic. Like have Gnomon think it’s a good thing that people fear Duke and have Duke explain that even if he wanted to, that tactic wouldn’t work for a person like him. People *can’t* be scared of The Signal in the same way they can be scared of Batman or even Superman, and this is kinda explored in WAR (the whole arc not just the specific WAR comics) a little bit but again, missed opportunity to really get into all this interesting set up for Duke specifically

Trying not to sound too woke by calling every discrimination type either sexist or racist even if I know the terminology for it.
That said, I was watching a Youtuber I liked in a centrist charity event and I just feel very annoyed trying to watch ittttttttttttttttttt y’all I swear they rigged the game because they’re RACISTTT RACISMMM i swearrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr they micro-aggression-ed SO HARD
I like these fun crossover connection mingling events but it’s hard being apolitical sometimes, i think it’s because it’s sponsored. Favorite comment response to the whole thing is “I’m switching to Geico.” This sponsership lowkey made me not want to use their insurance.
They wanted drama and a Kevin Hart comedic relief gag character, but THEY DID NOT GET ONE 👏 I do think that’s a particularly frustrating situation to be put in and it’s hard to determine how to react safely that’s still seen as socially appropriate. They’re ragebaiting him, not in a friendly competitive manner, but giving genuine disrespect. If it was just banter then it would be fine but they were doing way more than necessary. Good job with the PR training but if still showed anger that would still be an acceptable reaction imo. It’s kinda annoying that socially, we have to consider that even if we get disrespected, we have to be calm and collected. Logically i guess it shows competence and maturity? But somebody really needed to confront the people in charge directly, I want an explanation.
But it’s the nice apolitical thing to do to say they all had fun meeting each other. Tbh, political differences and grievances aside, yeah, it was kinda fun. Politically speaking though, it could have been more fun if there wasn’t such a bias. I know I’m biased but I would’ve accepted the loss better if it was nicer and friendlier.
l've noticed that a lot of these people view media and art not as an experience that encourages creativity and critical thinking, but as a drug they take specifically to avoid all that.
It's escapism in its truest form: a belief that art should not aspire to anything greater than cheap, mindless capital-C Content specifically for you. And if a creator dares to stray away from that path even a little, it's not only a grave moral failure on their part, but a deeply personal attack on you that must be punished, with nothing you do in pursuit of that possibly being disproportionate.
And once it's over, they move onto the next fandom like nothing ever happened like a carrion bird tracking down its next meal.
It's a fundamentally incurious way to live, and it's legitimately everything wrong with modern internet culture.
that’s interesting. Apparently critical drinker made a film. Y’know, that’s the second time I’ve seen a hyper anti-SJW “critical” media analysis Youtuber decide to make the exact type of film they hate. I feel like rhat’s proof enough that rightwingers are making that “stupid feminism” type of stories in the first place. They’re cut from the same cloth, fake woke and just straight up conservative. I think this is horseshoe theory.

superboy prime's flippant perspective is a really good character flaw that should be expanded on
My last post was about how Prime is being characterized in the current run as a more flippant superhero. He doesn't really think his crimes and villainous actions matter nowadays because none of it was real and also things get retconned and rebooted all the time.
I didn't mention it, but this is absolutely my favorite part of his "rebrand" in the new run, and it's been slightly touched on in 36 and 37, but not as much as it was hinted at in, like, issue 29. However, the ending of 37 is really sloppy in how it handles Prime's past; he himself being uncaring toward his past actions is GOOD, other people brushing it off is BAD, especially when it's Power Girl, who is probably his second biggest victim with actual relevancy. Like, she just... leaves, when Martha tells her to. WHAT!!
Now, my main point for this post is that focusing on Prime's lack of care is actually a decent way to salvage this really sloppy ending. Prime not getting consequences for his past only fuels his "nothing I did matters" mentality while also complicating his "I want to prove that I'm better now" goal. Him not wanting to think about his evil actions is a perfectly fine, realistic response, but everyone else letting it slide only worsens his emotional distance between the comic book NPCs he's going to have to save and he, himself, who is a "real person."
A simpler way to put it is, you can easily go from Prime not getting proper consequences > he gets more flippant about being a hero > he makes more mistakes > he gets actual consequences about his current actions > he grows from that. It's easy to spin this into an arc, is what I'm saying.
And I think him being cold and unempathetic is a very realistic way to go about it. His current situation is the equivalent of playing GTA with cheats. I don't want this flaw of his to go away, but I want him to deal with it, not have it be reduced to a silly character quirk in the future. My worst nightmare is him becoming nothing more than comedic relief.
i think it’s interesting actually learning about kleptomania because the way writers’ and fandom’s classism manifests for Catwoman and Jason Todd and other characters tells me a rather interesting time period misunderstanding that people get about “why people steal.”
Kleptomania was historically developed as a protection and I guess anti-insult for rich people stealing since stealing is considered something only poor people do. But statistically it’s been shown that rich people are generally more likely to steal than poor people (lots of nice friendly respectful poor neighbors imo). See, it’s understandable for why a poor person would steal, they have nothing so they need to eat and sleep. But for a rich privileged person to steal from your basic grocery store? What for? They must be crazy!
I think it’s the pop psychology buzzword-ification of mental disorders tbf.
I do think poor people who steal has a bit more complexity to it though separated from kleptomania and community. Slapping “poor background” on a kleptomaniac character/person just seems wrong.
