What’s ironic about the “ultimate child criminal” is how it’s crazy unexpected for white kids to do heinous acts… when that happens a lot.
I’m the meta guy, but i see these wholesome batfam fans making Duke art and I kinda wanna get fanon to change their perception on Duke better (the fans that are specifically really innocent and wholesome, not the annoying fanon fandom).
Like, what is the most apolitical manner and least annoying nerdy way in which I can correct somebody without subtextually accusing them of any political biases? Usually these people can take some political criticism, but I can’t sus them out from those people that get really offended for implying they might be a little bit subconsciously accidentally prejudiced. Yes, I know that if they get really offended over being accidentally bigoted, I shouldn’t waste my time helping them. But I personally can’t handle that heat. Disregarding my behavioral habits though, I’m sure the answer is just to be honest.
It’s kinda hard for me to imagine Duke’s story as apolitical though I’m sure it’s possible. Best case scenario is just easing them into We Are Robin as his friends, even if they don’t know them enough to characterize them?
Bc he’s black
Cuz he’s blakc

“We are descended from the Witches you couldn’t burn!”
It’s a nice sentiment, I like the energy, I do. That said, I am actually descended from a “Salem Witch,” and my Ancestor, Mary Isham Towne, was not burnt at the stake, she was hanged by the neck until dead. We’re not savages y’know.
Furthermore, Mary Isham Towne was a churchgoing, god-fearing woman, who just so happened to be a widow who owned a piece of land that the local judge wanted to purchase, but which she refused to sell, and which he set out to acquire pretty much immediately after he sentenced her execution.
So, y’know.
Personally i can’t really like Duke x Dax tbh. I’m really trying to imagine it but ehhhhh 🤷
Riko’s turn to villainhood wasn’t just a random writing drama change for interest. It’s just racist.
Like, I’m hearing some fans alike explain how it’s bad writing, but not mention the racism. As if it’s too “woke” to admit that the writing problem and issues are political in some way. Some apolitical centrist crap or whatever.
Some apolitical centrist crap or whatever in the DUKE FANDOM. Wrong place to be apolitical, buddy!
My bias is gonna have some irregular opinions about how Duke’s dynamic with Harley, Joker, and Jay (Superman) is gonna work out.
I do kinda agree though that if Duke must absolitely have to (🙄😒) work with metahuman rights, minority racial allegory plot, then I guess he should at least be teamed up with a character whose only personality is that. Y’know?
Conflicted feelings over the personality traits the girls got in the We Are Robin group because I guess it’s sexist if Izzy is the emotional one and Riko is the crazy emotional fangirl i guess. But the boys are all cool and not afraid of Jokers.
Yes, I’m claiming the real reason why WFA decided to mischaracterize Izzy and Dre in that one scene when they confront Joker so that Izzy is protecting scaredy cat Dre, as a recreation of their personalities because they for sure don’t think they already had one, is because of “woke” “feminism.” Bet y’all the writer went “Girl + Strong = good. Boy + needs to be weak enough to be protected by a girl = feminism.”
Not really a big deal. But it is archetypal as a replacement for personality. I’m the one who deserves to feel offended, don’t catch me with that “be more leftist” centrist crap when they didn’t even bother caring about PoC characters. Anyway, I personally think it’s offensive level is pretty low considering Izzy and Riko can be overly emotional traumatized strong badasses, neither of which cancels out. Izzy doesn’t need to be unafraid of Joker to prove her femininity isn’t weak. Same way that Dre doesn’t need to be not scared of Joker to prove his strength masculinity or whatever. Literally doesn’t matter, okay. Being scared emotional whatever has little to do with gender. Y’all subtly genderizing personalities. Switching girl vs boy dynamics doesn’t suddenly make it more progressive either.

Out of everyone in We Are Robin (Dre, Dax, Riko, Izzy, Shug), Duke is the only one with a completely healthy relationship with both of his parents. They canon event nerfed him 😱
I was thinking about Shug y’know, she probably doesn’t have a healthy relationship with her mother.
I like to think Dax had a good relationship with his father until he became a criminal, which turned into resentment. The type of resentment that made him lose all sympathy (his father isn’t literally Chill in my headcanon) since it was like he chose to abandon the family to do something horrible. If you’re gonna sacrifice yourself, you might as well have done something good. If his father actually managed to bring back money, I feel like Dax would have a bit more complexity about the situation.
Riko has a complicated family life because it’s actually pretty good and loving. The problem is just miscommunication and not understanding each other. Love isn’t enough. If they had a longer runtime, I think them restraining Riko due to overprotectiveness would’ve made for a good reoccurring drama conflict. It kinda reminds me of Tim’s arc with his father.
Day 4 (+ 1) of @dukethomas-week: Growth & Zero Year
I wanted to depict my idea of a merge between Zero Year and NML here. The Narrows is a post-Flashpoint invention, and where it is on the map was actually a part of Robinson Park during post-crisis (which actually makes sense if you think about how it used to be Blossom Row but I digress).
I like to imagine Duke being a minor player during NML, maybe becoming an informant of Oracle's, but definitely befriending Ivy's kids either way (hence them sharing fruit with him). Elaine and Doug wish their son wasn't so adventurous, but they don't have much to keep a curious and too-brave-for-his-own-good kid occupied indoors in a no man's land.
I've been so busy with irl stuff and getting ready for this upcoming writers conference I'm going to next week but holy shit even if I haven't been able to participate like I wanted to this Duke week has been so incredible. genuinely hats off to everyone who made content because it's been so wonderful seeing everyone come together to appreciate our GOATED vigilante poet. seriously we've come SO FAR as members of Duke nation and I've been doing everything in my power to spread the word about the beautiful community we've all built together. I know I say it every year but with all the hype, new appearances, and rapidly growing community 2026 might GENUINELY be Dukes year!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!!
Found out what YN means in the black community. I think it’s misleading to include a racial word that nonblack people can’t say but suddenly is acceptable to say as long as it’s an acronym 😅

There’s this Music artist i found on Youtube that I feel like doesn’t understand the genre they’re attempting to achieve.
Yes, I am going to claim “weirdness” as neurodivergent coded. Their aesthetic is weird music, but their music feels like a neurotypical trying to copy other art created by neurodivergents.
The key part of why I say that is because it’s random. Their beat changes and lyrics are super random. That’s the thing I think he doesn’t understand, things that “sound random” aren’t actually random. Throwing toilet paper on a public space dramatically has nothing to do with your song. Metaphors are a literary device that everyone can understand. It might take more effort to get it, but neurodivergent metaphors shouldn’t be too difficult to understand.
