I have a dumb headcanon that kinda fixes a continuity error, and it makes perfect sense and no one can take it away from me.

When Zim first arrived on Earth, it was spelled “Earth” and his PAK did translate how it was pronounced correctly.

But he kept getting frustrated that the spelling of it made absolutely no sense.

So he told his computer to change the spelling to “URTH” in all his programs because that is how you literally pronounce it and is the proper spelling in Zim’s opinion. 

And Zim is adamantly stubborn about this. He will get marked down on his skool work because he will spell things out how they sound, rather than the proper English spelling. It’s the more practical method they use on Irk. And I kinda think Irken as a language wouldn’t have many silent letters. It’s not as complicated and weird as English. But I do think that for names, traditionally, (for irkens and for places) they throw in as many random symbols and repeating letters as they like to seem fancy (like French) 

Zim usually spells his words with S’s in them with Z’s.

First watch of Bestest I thought Keef’s name was Keith. Maybe it is and Keef is just how he spells/pronounces it.

I see your Zim spelling things how they sound and raise you Zim saying things how they’re spelt (I fully agree that the PAK originally gave him the correct pronunciation-but knowing Zim he would probably stubbornly ignore it and instead favor ‘superior’ irken language conventions)

This didn’t exactly come out the way that I originally planned, but all you really need to know is that Zim is willing to commit high treason to keep his humans alive and other terrible things to make sure that happens :)
