AN EXPLORATION OF : being doomed by the narrative, the duality of man, surviving out of spite, female rage, generational curses, and leaving your mark behind
my characterization of odette is loosely inspired by the swan lake ballet and the swan princess animated movie. odette is cursed by an evil sorcerer. her punishment is that she retains the form of a swan during the day and is human during the night. this blog contains the following triggers: body horror, chronic pain, chronic illness, and death of parent.
odette’s transformations are incredibly painful and take a toll on her body. without getting too much into it, mun is disabled and chronically ill. writing odette helps me voice a lot of frustrations, anger, and grief that i’m feeling but don’t know how to express.
because she is always in pain, odette has a tendency to be mean and unfriendly. she will act this way towards your muse, especially if we are just diving into a new thread or we have not plotted a past relationship between our characters.
verses:
⭑ HIGH FANTASY VERSE. she is the lost princess of a powerful king who made a deal with wicked sorcerer baron von rothbart. 20 years later, the sorcerer comes to collect. rothbart kidnaps odette and curses her to turn into a swan at night. he says he will break the spell if odette agrees to marry him—thus turning her kingdom over to him. she refuses and rothbart keeps her prisoner. odette manages to escape and remains on the run. rothbart is looking for her while he plots to take over the kingdom by force.
⭑ MODERN VERSE. by default, odette is human and not cursed unless we have plotted this beforehand. odette is an heiress to her father’s tech company. she was a talented ballerina and a part of a widely known ballet company but gets badly injured in an accident that ends her dancing career. due to her injury, she experiences chronic pain and weakness on the left side of her body and sometimes walks with a cane.
