paranoia is easy mode but it feels like lunatic because of how anxious he is, he started to see stuff (fake animatronics, fake audio / visual cues)

Like, for the whole game we've basically gotten this depiction of Fiona as this superwife, endlessly patient and forgiving and always supporting her husband. I think we, as the audience, can tell that Fiona is her own person with her own motivations and priorities, but Edwin...?

Edwin loves Fiona, that's clear. But I'm also not sure that he really ever saw her as anything but that endlessly supportive wife. It's really telling to me, that after she died, he used the machine that was meant to be David's babysitter to be her "replacement."

It seems like M1 stepped into this enabling role for Edwin, cooking and cleaning and raising David while Edwin worked and worked and worked... and the first time Edwin has the clarity to realize that M1 isn't his dead wife, it's because M1 had failed in one of those tasks for the first time. David had died on M1's watch.

Sidenote, it makes me wonder how Edwin might react if Fiona ever messed up in real life. I think if you'd asked him, back when he was alive, he might say some variation of "I don't need to worry about that, Fiona never makes mistakes!" ...Which, you can see why that's concerning.

We all know about the moment that karma came and bit Edwin in the ass when it comes to M2. When Edwin is trapped and dying and needs help, M2 simply mimics Edwin's behavior--a neglectful father--back at him, causing him to die. But I think that there's also another sort of karma happening with Fiona and F10N4.

Edwin never realized that his wife had goals and motivations outside of supporting and loving him, but F10N4 noticed it. And mimicked it. And it led to a subtle sort of betrayal, one that comes to a head with this line. "I miss my son more."

F10N4 is the one who convinced Edwin to create the second mimic program, in order to recreate David. After M2 was made, and Edwin beat him up, F10N4 was the one to notice that M2 was faulty and erratic, and urged Edwin to fix him, fix him, fix him. And Edwin kept not fixing him. But even as the situation grew more intense, F10N4 never said that Edwin should shut M2 down. She was always coming from the perspective of a mother wanting to save her child. Her first priority was always to fix him, even as M2 became more and more dangerous.

And then M2 kills Edwin.

The F10N4 we see in sotm loves Edwin, yes, but she also is not supporting him or his goals. Everything she does in sotm, she does for her son, M2. Edwin's failure to notice that--his failure to realize that F10N4 might have other wants and other priorities than just doing what's right for Edwin--contributed directly toward his downfall, in the end, even if F10N4 didn't mean for it to. If she hadn't urged him to create the second mimic, none of this would have happened.
