1000 Whispers

I still remember the first time you said I love you. We were standing at the corner of a busy San Francisco intersection, all of your friends in arms reach. You grabbed my waist and drew me closer... close enough for me to smell the traces of scotch on your breath. I like you...you whispered, a cute smirk painted across your face. No you said suddenly... “I love you... I love you, I’m in love with you, and I’m going to marry you.” and the next morning as the sun trickled in from our hotel drapes you said the same “Remember.. I love you. I’m in love with you and I’m going to marry you.”

Sometimes I think I've forgotten.. I think i've let go. Then I exhale deeply and you're name trickles out of the corners of my lips, like the carbon dioxide my body is working so hard so exhale. Only much, much more prevalent

Hanging on by a thread, or strangled by it rather. Borderline realist, but more of a hopeless romantic. Expectations, they kill. Expectations of the fairytales, that I wished were real. The outrageous gestures, the undying love. Glass slippers and awakening kisses. Those dreams slowly withered away, as reality settled in. Then you came along, changed it again. Maybe this isn't everything I ever dreamed of, maybe it's better. Because all this time I dreamt of a love so surreal, but here I am stripped down to the core with a love, so real.
