As the sun sets on a quickly receding winter, it’s time to contemplate all the great rides to be had and a life of exploration that the bike empowers me to enjoy. I resolve to soon have my best fitness in 15 years. It takes work, but one must embrace the struggle. The ultimate goal, however, is not fitness itself. Fitness is merely the rainbow leading to a treasure pot of adventures. Without the bike, I would have great difficulty keeping up with my ambitions to experience the world and venture into its wildernesses. At 43 years of age, I hope to realize what my father says can be the best years of a man’s life. His reasoning is that I now have enough life experience that I can take full advantage of the prodigious physiological potential and mental acuity that I’ve retained from my youth.
