The thing about people saying Jax being trans came out of nowhere is that I wonder if these people would react like that if it was any other plot twist.
Jax being trans is structured like a plot twist, where there are hints to this fact that some people pick up on and some people don't, either way the plot twist makes you see the rest of the story in a different light. Usually when these plot twists happen, even the people that didn't see that plot twist coming, aren't mad about it, they just accept that this is new info that we're learning, because that's how that story telling method works. But in this case, where the plot twist is one of the characters being a repressed trans woman, there's droves of people complaining that they didn't see it coming. Okay? That's the point of a plot twist.
Remember when people had that theory that Jax ran over a little girl after episode 7, if that had turned out to be true do you think people who didn't jump on that theory would complain they didn't see it coming? In fact, people didn't say that about us learning that Jax almost killed her mom, even though there were even less hints to that, no one said "I didn't see the Jax killing his mom plotline coming" cuz that's how learning new info about a character often works. But for some people when the new info is a character being trans that story structure is suddenly a problem
people who are like "but with universal healthcare you'll have to pay taxes!!! Up to 8%!!!" Are so funny. Like as opposed to the 16% of my gross paycheck that goes to private insurance, that won't cover shit unless i call my insurance company, then my doctor, then my pharmacy, then my doctor again because theyre pretty sure insurance got approved then my insurance company because they didn't get the letter, then my doctor again, then the pharmacy again, and then the copay i still am on the hook for.
I've just finished SDR2, and by god. They really just released some animal like Nagito into the world huh.

genuinely fucked up that if i want to interact with someone online i have to say words and have a conversation instead of just mashing my face against them like a cat
reblog to mash your face against your mutuals like a cat

stan? STAN NO NOOOOOOOO DONT DO IT
in 2026 DO NOT ask yourself whether your art is GOOD
instead ask:
is it SINCERE
was it CATHARTIC
was it FUN TO MAKE
is it MADE BY ME
and don't forget to stay silly
how it feels to still be in the gravity falls fandom
Gravity Falls is a fascinating exercise in censorship, coding, and implication because one of the main characters is an old man who spent 10+ years homeless, in and out of prison, running drugs across borders, doing sex work to survive etc but the main cartoon canon can’t focus on this obviously. it gets spread out across different material. so yeah Grunkle Stan is genuinely one of my favorite characters.
example: we know he was institutionalized because of an aside in a coloring book. we know he’s on some kind of psychiatric medication from an aside in the DS game.
actually, one of the really clever things that makes it into the show is finding out that one of his old identities was Andrew '8-Ball' Alcatraz. it’s a sly coded message (in a show all about decoding messages) that says Stan Was Incarcerated For Drug Trafficking. (8-Ball is a classic unit of measurement by weight for a few different drugs and Alcatraz is a prison.)

stan is the only member of the pines twins^2 to never make a deal with bill and i think he needs more credit for that.
ford makes, just, so many deals with his demon boyfriend
dipper literally trades his body to bill in sock opera
and while i will die on the hill that it was never her fault, mabel is tricked into making a deal with him for weirdmagenon.
but stan never gets tricked. the only time he comes close was when he was pretending to be ford but that was with the sole purpose of getting bill erased. never does bill get to him or twist his thoughts. for being the "dumb one" he's surprisingly rational in this was.
nobody matches bill intellectually, ford's fatal flaw is that he thought he did, and the pines family wins because they have an emotional core that bill never had (the power of sibling bonding saves the day and i love it) but ill go out on a limb and say that out of everyone, stan is the only one to match bill's street smarts.
bill's a master manipulator but stan is a professional con-artist with no respect for the law, you tell me who's coming out on top.
stan successfully faked his own death, ran a business for 30 years, taught himself some sort of advanced engineering to repair the portal, evaded local, federal and international authorities from the age of 18, and did it all without any support.
and going back to when he pretends to be ford to get bill to enter his mind, that scene makes stan the only character to ever outwit bill.
anyways this has been a stan pines appreciation post, thank you and goodnight
As a continuation of my “let Dipper say Fuck” and “let Stan say Bitch” agenda, I don’t think Bill should be allowed to swear. I think he should be perfectly aware of the concept and vocabulary of swear words but he’s just physically incapable of swearing due to being stuck in a kid’s show. And he’s really, really, really mad about that.
alex hirsch truly is like. the guy ever. he created one of if not the most renowned and successful disney tva shows. he clowns on said network. he won his high school’s bird calling contest. he hates trump and is always advocating for people to vote. also prank calls republican/maga hotlines and was on the washington post for such. he voices half the cast of his own show and does a deranged mickey mouse voice he uses for like two separate shows. he owns a giant taxidermy buffalo. he and his sister were on an international improv team in high school. disney censored practically all queer themes in his show and now he has a nyt best seller (and created the website plus recent interviews ect ect) that imply there was something going on between that fuck ass triangle and ford. a straight man creating good old man yaoi. creates the craziest rabbit holes to send the fandom down probably primarily fueled by adhd and coffee. he probably has his flannel sewn to his body atp and has thousands of sticky hands on the wall in his house. i could go on but he’s just truly such a interesting guy
why do kids cartoons always have the best most nuanced and layered plots and characters and adult cartoons are always just “fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck”
y’all just— thinking about how excited Stanley must have been to host the twins— Alex says he smokes cigars but he doesn’t smoke once in the show— has a beer gut but he only drinks sodas in front of the kids— doesn’t swear when they’re around which must have taken INCREDIBLE effort— Stanley Pines, known crook, buying pancake mix at the supermarket and many bottles of syrup— learning to cook basic healthy meals and burning so many of them before he gets it right— buying new sheets, new mattresses— avoiding bunk beds because it reminds him of Ford— looking at the attic room he made wondering “is this enough will they like me”— trying to act aloof at the bus stop so he doesn’t betray the fact that he was there hours early— watching them goof around and thinking of New Jersey beaches— then the first night they’re there, he watches them debate running away and only stay because Mabel shook a magic 8 ball. That must have kept him awake all night.

idk man but something about Stanley "taught himself extremely advance physics/math/probably many other things while running a relatively successful business" Pines and Stanford "is wanted in almost every dimension with a judicial system of some kind" Pines is sooo fucking funny to me
au idea I had that I'll probably never get to writing:
ciphertology happens roughly a decade after it does in canon. Silas/Bill is selling the promise far and wide, not denying being a cult and generally being a menace, but it's still working. one couple, sold on promises of wealth and a better life for their family? Filbrick and Carynn (probably spelt those wrong whoops) Pines.
the family sells their possessions to move to Orchard Lake, Kansas. they don't stay for very long, having the sense to get the hell out of dodge when the law got involved, but during that time their son Ford makes a strong impression on the cult's leader. Bill makes contact with Ford shortly after Silas' second death, appearing in his dreams and shaping his life for the rest of childhood.
when the time comes for college, Ford is already sketching portal plans. the theoretical equations alone would be enough to earn him a full ride wherever he chose. Ford wants to go to West Coast Tech, of course, but it's Bill who tells him to go to Backupsmore. There, he meets Fiddleford -who's half convinced his roommate is completely insane- and more importantly Emma-May. Fiddleford has no clue why his roommate and girlfriend are so close, let alone who this Silas Birchtree they keep swapping concerning stories about is.
plans from here are looser, but Ford may end up as a semi-accidental cult leader and apocalypse starter
