Admittedly, she’d been less than thrilled at given the role of babysitter for the night (it’s not like these kids respected willingly listened to anyone with a semblance of authority -- though truth be told, she wasn’t any better) so Nancy couldn’t be blamed if she’d let them wander off around the house, doing whatever the hell they wanted as long as it didn’t include death or summoning evil hobgoblins. It’s happened before and once had to be enough for these little brats. 

But then Max’s announcement, right next to her ear, had her head snapping right up. “No.” God, there couldn’t have been anything else she dreaded to hear more. “You hit me with a pillow, you little dweeb and it will end in tears for you--”

pillow poised to strike, she took a moment to (fake) consider nancy’s threat. “maybe so, but at least I get the first hit!” and with that, she bonked nancy in the head, a smug look on her face.

op is absolutely right. this is coming from someone who researches and teaches on age and society professionally. modern western society is age-segregated to an unprecedented degree and there is ample evidence that it is absolutely fucking us over. it’s linked to everything from economic hardship to mental health crises.

intergenerational friendships are important. adults who never interact with young people outside of a defined institutional relationship with a built-in power imbalance (like being a parent or teacher) don’t develop the capacity to treat young people as equals, which reinforces patterns of abuse, neglect, social disempowerment, and silencing. young people who lack meaningful connections with adults outside of those same institutions miss out on an incredible source of support and guidance. and everyone misses out on the basic human joy of friendships that could have been really meaningful if we didn’t have this weird, broken ideology that says young people have nothing interesting to say, and no value to adults who don’t either want to raise them or exploit them or both.

like, sure, with any relationship between a minor and an adult, the adult has a responsibility that the minor doesn’t. some shit only comes from life experience. but like… that teen who comes to dnd on fridays, the younger coworker, that person met through fandom? i’m not gonna pretend we’re not friends just because i’m older than they are.

Like maybe you’re 16 and working your first job, and you have an old Chinese man as a regular who sits at a table and reads the Chinese newspaper his family mails him, and you start sitting down and talking to him when it’s slow. And he tells you all about the life he’s lived, of being a child in the aftermath of world war two. And he talks to you about the prejudice he’s seen, and the way he sees people treat each other, and how much things have changed. And you learn a lot.

Or you meet a 30-something mother of two that walks with a cane in a group therapy session, and when you speak to her she opens up about her struggles with drugs, and how she wishes to stay better so she can be there for her kids. And she teaches you about having a more open mind when it comes to religious beliefs when you’re an edgy atheist teen.

Or you’re very isolated in your hobbies, and you meet a group of college students that share your interests and are fine letting you join in on their card games and D&D, and you not only learn the games but you get used to a group that’s accepting and just wants to have fun and make everyone comfy, and you learn not every group of people has to be judgemental and scary.

You’re saying that instead of making teens aware of the signs of toxic relationships, and keeping an open line of communication so we can help them take notice of and avoid these things… You’d rather we lock teens in a box where they’re deprived of the positives?

Force so many teens to be around peers that bully and disregard them, when they have prospective friends in local clubs and support groups that just aren’t necessarily in their peer group?

Hardcore Tumblr users really are just puritans huh? Hell even historically, households were made of many generations, and kids helped out in the community and met the adults that kept it going.

     okay so. i’ve been in the rpc for several years and i’m so tired of seeing a lot of really gross ableist shit that people seem to love doing with their muses, so i decided to make a post about it!

     also, please note this is pretty much JUST about stuff i’ve seen people do with their muses, and not the inaccessibility i’ve seen rampant in the rpc - that’s an entirely different post that i will in all honesty probably end up making.

     general disclaimer that these are only my experiences, and i am by no means the end all be all of disability knowledge or whatever. if you are physically disabled and/or mentally ill and there is something you’ve seen someone do with their muse that is ableist, please feel free to add it on!

stop saying shit like “crippling anxiety”/“crippling depression” because cripple is a slur specifically against physically disabled people. if something isn’t physically disabling, it isn’t crippling.

“psychotic” doesn’t mean evil. your muse isn’t “psychotic” because they like to kill people, they’re just a dick.

stop using psychosis for shock value/edginess. and the same goes for all of the “scary” mental illnesses. it’s gross when you do that.

also don’t give your muse a disability just to be shocking, that’s also…really gross. if you’re going to give your muse a disability (and by all means, please do! please normalize disability, we’re one of the largest minorities in the world and so deeply underrepresented) please be respectful about it. do your research.

stop using the word “psycho” if you’re not psychotic. as with cripple, it is a slur.

honestly if you’re not psychotic don’t even touch psychosis, you’re not going to be able to understand and yall always end up making it so edgy and scary or whatever. quit that shit.

if you have a muse who is disabled in canon, and you give them a modern verse, they better be disabled in that verse. i don’t give a shit if their disability comes from a trauma that would not exist in a modern verse, do something else. it’s such bullshit to be like “well my muse wouldn’t have been in the fight that caused loss of limb so therefore they aren’t disabled in their modern verse” or some shit like that’s. ableism. that’s erasing a canon disability stop doing that.

you’re a writer i have full faith in your ability to come up with a reason for your muse to be disabled in a modern setting. and if you really can’t think of a reason, either come to me and i will gladly help you, OR you just…don’t need one. you don’t need a reason to be disabled, i promise. you can just have your muse be disabled.

do not write your character being “cured” of their disability that’s fucking disgusting. i don’t care if there would be a way for them to be “cured” in canon, it’s literally tying into eugenicist propaganda to say that disability is something that needs to be “cured”

if you’re abled, do not outright say or imply that your muse feels less human because of their disability. there definitely is a lot of internalized ableism that can cause that, but as an abled writer, you cannot understand what that is like, and you should not be writing it. it literally just comes off as ableist when you do it.

also don’t outright say or imply that your muse IS less human because of their disability like…what the fuck.

also like… mentally ill people and physically disabled people do both face ableism, but the ableism isn’t… the same? it’s definitely similar but i’ve seen a lot of abled mentally ill people talk over physically disabled people and even like. turn conversations about ableism that physically disabled people face into conversations about their mental illness. don’t do that.

     if you’ve done any of these things in the past, or incorporated them into your muse, don’t just feel bad about it. fix it. i have full faith that you can rectify your mistakes without making a huge deal out of it.

Minko said he was rejected twice for assistance from the federal Paycheck Protection Program, which chains including Shake Shack and Ruth’s Chris Steak House were not. Amongst some of the things than could happen are:

• Downloading, and distribution of PDF files would be illegal, as well as photocopying books.

• Downloading files for academic investigations would become illegal.

• English, robotics, and engineering workshops would become illegal.

• Costs in education would increase.

That last one is particularly important because sadly, Mexico doesn’t have a great public education system, thus, many people have to enroll into private schools and most of them are very very expensive. Sadly almost half of the population here lives in poverty, in consequence many children aren’t able to go to public schools. let alone costly private schools.

• Amongst the things that would turn illegal too, would be electronic repairing businesses, and only those businesses with authorized licenses could work.

• It would be illegal to add components to electronic devices, such as RAM memories, better processors, amongst others, regardless of the fact that said components were bought legally.

• Maintenance costs would increase as it would be illegal to fix your own electronic devices, even if it’s just a small touch up.

If things weren’t already bad, the way we use the internet would be affected.

• Access to internet would become more expensive, new taxes would be added to platforms as well as media.

• Internet providing services could block the access to downloading images, music, videos, books,  pretty much any content that could be found on the internet, including memes.

And last but not least.

Internet censorship.

“If someone points out any post or publication that violates authors rights, said post or publication must be hidden, eliminated, or disabled without previous notice, proof, or any jurisdictional order coming from the internet provider (…)”

Thus anyone, corporations and organizations, could demand for anything to be deleted and there wouldn’t be any reason to stop them as they would protect themselves with alleged authors right accusations.

Overall, our government looks forward to silencing us, keeping us quiet and not allowing us of freedom of speech.

This can have awfully consequences, as we would be silenced for expressing our political views and content would be manipulated to fit a certain political narrative.

I am asking for everyone out there to please share this. My future and many others would be greatly affected by this law, many people could lose their jobs and fall deeper into the ever growing line of poverty that Mexico has.

We can’t allow for the government to keep us silenced and censored.
