It's not that I'm against a Pacific Rim set in general. I don't think I'd even mind if the set was on Ikoria and they brought in Kamigawa tech through the omenpaths to fight the monsters. It's specifically that it's set on Kamigawa that I hate, because it feels emblematic of Wotc's lack of care for stewardship of their worlds. You make cool worlds, then ruin them for shock value or genre pandering. It's the same thing that leads to the retcons about what happened to Zhalfir, or you gaslighting us in EMN that Innistrad was never a *gothic* horror world, or eliminating the Tarkir dragonlords off-screen to sell packs instead of tell a story, or include all the modern elements in Duskmourn that contradict the unexpectedly good worldbuilding
