there’s this term i coined in my friendgroup i call “the charizard effect” and it can apply to anything and everything, but it was born from me explaining my feelings about the pokemon charizard. the term is basically about how overexposure to something be it by corporate shilling or fandom prominence drives me away from really enjoying something bc i’m exposed to it so much against my will i become tired of it. it came to me bc i was ranting about how tpci does not, and cannot stop reinventing charizard, and how it is popular and obtusely included in almost every region, merch, etc in every way possible and it’s highly commodified.

i dont dislike the pokemon charizard, in fact i really like its X form, but i am exposed to so much charizard in my pokemon consumption that i cant be bothered to care for it in any more than in passing. this applies to a bunch of other stuff i’d otherwise be ok with, but i always just call this aversion phenomena “the charizard effect”

A Pokemon only counts for itself, not its evolution line.

A Pokemon with multiple forms (like Zygarde) will only be counted for the specified form. A Pokemon with multiple appearances (like Spinda, Vivillon, Sylvally, etc.) count for all their appearances.

I'm literally doing this as a testament to my own depression that not everyone is lovable, so add that to the weight of this post's meaning.

Not propaganda for/against any pokemon specifically, but I've always felt that pokemon that are good in competitive are more likely to be straight/cis/etc. Like, Landorus-T? He is the establishment. He has a wife and 2.4 kids in a suburban neighborhood. He goes home after a long day of terrorizing OU to have a beer and watch TV.

There's only a few exceptions like Amoongus being an advocate for trans rights.

This has put me in the position of arguing that Xerneas and Incineroar are straight despite one of them being literal rainbows incarnate and the other being the most dramatic buff dude ever.

I've kinda seen that, like some people associate the competitive side with straight cis ppl? At the same time when people claim this, people come out of the woodwork to claim otherwise. Rn the competitive scene is pretty queer I think!

Incineroar is the masculine equivalent of a theater kid. Playing a heel in wrestling and being the designated bad guy for others stories? That's acting!

I mean most of the restricted legendary pokemon are literally genderless so there's that, and several viable pokemon have pairings can be read as queer, such as indeedee/armarouge, incineroar/rillaboom, torkoal/lilligant (if you're woke enough).

And the pokemon vcg scene is over all fairly queer friendly with several queer competitors in the mix. (here's a pretty good video about the topic if anyone's interested)
