Yuma rushed to Kalin’s bookstore, which was located by one of the many Kaibadomes in Domino City, as it was a popular location.

Yuma hurried inside. 

“Hey, Yuma!” Kalin said, upon his entry. 

“KALIN!” Someone said intimidatingly from behind him. 

Kalin turned around swiftly. “Yusei! When did you get here?” he asked. 

“I told you not to be friendly with…Yumes.” he said, almost disgusted by the sound of the name. 

“Oh, sorry Yuse.” Kalin said. He turned back to Yuma. “What do you want, Yumes?” 

Yuma looked around. “Do you got another chapter of Observation No. 39?” he asked. 

Kalin slapped his hand to his forehead and slowly dragged it down. “Yumes… this is the 14th time this week that you’ve come in here and asked about Observation No. 39!” he said. 

“... does that mean you have it?”

“No, Yuma. Art takes time. Come talk to me next week. Me and my business partner S.B should have a new chapter for you then.” Kalin sighed. 

“Aw, sweet!” Yuma skipped over to a nearby bookshelf. He grabbed issue 16 of Double D and brought it to the counter. “I’d like to purchase this book.” he said, like nothing had happened seconds before. “I’ve read every last one before it! It’s such a good story!” he plopped it down. 

“Yumes, my buddy, well not-so-much buddy… you’ve gotta’ cut back on these books. They’re not good for your health when you mass-read them!” Kalin said. 

Yuma rolled his eyes. “I’m hooked on em’, Kalin! I ain’t ever gonna’ stop reading them! They’re my passion, my purpose, my reason for living! I spent my entire life savings–75 cents and all– on my first Doujin called ‘Confessions’, and it changed my life!” 

Yusei glared. Kalin sighed. This happened a lot. Every visit meant a sale. Which was good. But every sale meant an ‘inspirational’ speech on why Yuma liked the books so much. Every visit was the same, with the rare exception that Yuma came in just for a browse of the recent Doujinshi when he wasn’t finished with the one he was on, and even that meant that he would go on and on about “the art, the story, the combination of talent and awesomeness made into a single, prize-worthy book of the ages”. 

Kalin learned how to tune the speeches out. Sometimes he would listen to “Take A Chance” on his headphones while Yuma went about talking, other times he just leaned on the counter out of boredom until he was done. He dozed off sometimes too. 

Yuma paid Kalin the money and skipped out of the store happily. 

Astral emerged from the Emperor’s Key with a shine. “What is that you are holding?” he asked.

“Issue #16 of Double D! I’ve been waiting a whole week for this!” Yuma said, his eyes glistening with happiness. “I am not certain of why you enjoy looking at these pictures. It is quite odd,” Astral stated. 

Yuma held the book up to the sunsetting sky. “You see this, Astral? It’s one of the best things to ever happen to me! It’s like watching a tv show, except you can watch it anywhere!” 

AStral looked at it. “I see…” he said hesitantly. “However, I do not understand your reasoning for choosing such… particular subjects.” 

Yuma lowered the book and blushed. “Cuz it’s fun and… sorta’... nice… to imagine…” 

Astral sighed and closed his eyes. “At least it is not last week’s ‘Zearu’.”

Bonds Beyond Time Again is a novel (i think) about the Yugioh multiverse for DM to Vrains, except in one world. Everythings fun and games until something strange starts happening when the bestseller at Kalin's Bookstore of Doujinshi and More keeps giving strange side effects to the readers. But there's more. Dark Mist seems to be the one behind it all...

I've really only watched the sub of zexal, so I use Dub names and things from the sub may be missing. (eg Jaden is still in Slifer Red).

Other than that, there's not much else to talk about, other than my absolutely psycho headcanons. Check out my post about them to learn more.

Yugi woke up one sunny morning. He hopped out of bed, pulling the Millennium Puzzle off the nightstand and over his head. After he got his typical outfit on, he left his bedroom and went downstairs to the game shop.

He saw Solomon on his back holding flowers with a note on them. It said

“Hope you like the present, dork. Your grandpa sure did! Ahahaha! -Kaiba” It was weird that he decided to write himself laughing. 

This was usual, however, as Kaiba would often take advantage of Solomon’s arthritis and pose him with various objects. Messing with old people was quite fun for Kaiba. 

Yugi walked around him and skipped out of the store. “Bye, Grandpa!” he called behind him.

After he closed the door, he turned around to see Joey. 

“Hey, Yuge! Ready ta’ go?” he asked.

“Yep!” 

The two had planned to go to the new race track that had opened about a week before. Apparently, new Duelists from around the world had created a trend of dueling on motorcycles called “Duel Runners”, so Yugi and Joey wanted to check it out.

When they arrived, Yugi was greeted by an old friend. 

“Hey, I remember you! You’re Yusei!” Yugi said with excitement. 

“And you’re Yugi!” Yusei said. “So, how has it been since the defeat of Paradox? I was in a different dimension, so I didn’t know about the state of the rest of the universe… that wouldn’t explain why I’m here though…”

“It’s been good, right Joey?” Yugi turned to his best friend. 

“Uh… uh…” Joey didn’t quite know what to say. Yugi was acting all familiar with a guy who he didn’t recall ever meeting. And he’s from a different dimension too?

“Well, we’re here to see the Duel Runners, so we’ve gotta’ head to the ticket exchange booth.” Yugi said. “Do you want to come with?” 

“Sure.” 

Yusei followed Yugi and Joey to the ticket booth, where all three of them turned in their tickets.

On the way to the seats, Yugi began talking with Yusei. “You know, I’m kind of surprised that you decided against being in the tournament,” he admitted. 

“I figured that I’d sit this one out, to see what it’s like from the crowd.” Yusei said.

That’s when the three of them arrived at their seats and sat down. 

Then the show began. Some duelists showed off their ultra-glammered Duel Runners while others performed tricks and dueled each other.

In the middle of a duel between a teen named Billy and a teen named Jonothan, Yugi heard a voice from beside him say “Aw, yeah! This is awesome!” 

He turned to see a boy with strange pink and deep blue gravity-defying hair holding his fists up excitedly as he watched the ongoing duel. 

“Hey, um, who are you?” he asked. 

“Oh!” the boy looked at him. “I’m Yuma, Yuma Tsukumo.” he held out his hand. “What about you?” 

Yugi scratched the back of his head and shook his hand. “I’m Y-Yugi Muto.” 

Yuma’s eyes widened at the name. “You’re… you’re the Yugi Muto! You’re the King of Games!”

Yugi blushed. “Well, I couldn’t have done it without Yami,” he said.

“Yami..?” Yuma asked, puzzled.

“Well, his real name is Atem. But I call him Yami. He was a pharaoh from 5,000 years ago!... But after he defeated an evil guy named Zorc, he got trapped in my Millennium Puzzle.” Yugi said, holding the golden item up for Yuma to see. “He had amnesia after I put my puzzle back together, and so me and my friends helped him regain them by going into the world of his memories! But then, for him to go to the spirit world, I had to duel him… and I won but… he had to leave. I was sad for a while, but then he returned! He’s in my puzzle right now.” 

Yuma blinked a couple of times. It was strange for sure, but not out of the ordinary for him.

“That’s cool!” he said.

Before he could say any more, Astral emerged from the Emperor’s Key. “Where are we, Yuma?” he asked, looking around. “It is quite crowded.” 

Yugi, who had resumed watching the game, looked over quickly when he saw the large flash of light. “Who’s that?” he asked. 

“Oh! This is Astral. I’m surprised you can see him. Not many can. He’s my buddy.” Yuma said.

“I see. Kind of like me and Yami?” Yugi asked. 

“Yeah.” 

Yugi took a moment to think before speaking again. “Hey, it seems that both me and you are connected to our partners through strange golden pendants, though I don’t know what yours does,” he said, looking down at his Millennium Puzzle, as it shone brightly. “Mine’s for containing a pocket dimension.” Yuma said. “My dad gave it to me when I was younger. It’s how I do my Kattobingu!” 

“Kattobingu?” Yugi wondered. 

“Kattobingu is like… like when you want to reach your goals, and you do it with all your might! And you don’t ever give up! Never ever!” Yuma said with a smile. 

Yugi smiled back at him. He reminded him of Joey, just a little bit. 

“So, it’s used almost like a home for Astral. He stored the Numbers there once.” Yuma said.

“What’s a ‘Number’?” Yugi asked. 

“A Number is… or was… a piece of Astral’s memory. They were split into over a hundred cards! I first met Astral when I unlocked a door and all the Numbers came out. Then me and him had to find them all. But get this,” Yuma said, holding a finger up. “He’d disappear if I lost a duel with Numbers on the line, so we had to be really careful. Later we met Kite, a Number Hunter, and then we obtained the power of Zexal, and then there was a tournament, and a big war between Astral World, the Barian World, and Earth. Oh, that was intense! But after we won, I had to duel Astral for the fate of Barian World, and I won, so he left, but like Yami, he’s back now. Obviously.” 

“I get it.” Yugi said, turning back to watch the duel. Billy was standing atop his Duel Runner waving to the crowd while Jonothan was on his knees crying beside his crashed runner.

“I guess Billy won,” Yugi murmured to himself. 

Astral looked at Yugi and looked at Yuma. “Who is this… “Yami?” he asked.

“Yugi says that he’s a lot like you, but I’ve never met him. He says that he’s a pharaoh who lives in a puzzle around his neck! They’re friends.” Yuma answered.

Astral placed his hand under his chin. “I see… You have talked about this ‘King of Games’ a lot. He seems to be an important individual.” he said. 

Yuma nodded. “Yeah.”

Joey looked over to see Astral, but he figured he wouldn’t even ask. After all, the day was getting weirder and weirder.

A couple hours of dueling and racing later, the event had ended. It was 5:30 and Yusei had already gone home. 

Yuma, Yugi and Joey were chatting as they made their way to Kame Game. 

“Hey Yugi?” Yuma asked. “How many tournaments have you won?”

“I’ve lost count!” Yugi answered. 

 “Oh, wow!” Yuma exclaimed. 

“Say, what about you? How many have you won?” Yugi asked. 

“Um… one…” Yuma murmured as he kicked a rock.

Yugi chuckled. “Hey, Joey!” he said, prompting Joey to look at him. “He’s won more tournaments than you!” 

Joey scowled. “Ey! Dat’s not nice, Yuge! I’m way betta’ than him!” 

Yugi chuckled. “I know, Joey, I was just messing with you!” 

Yuma looked over. “What do you mean ‘I know’? I could beat him easy-peasy!” he said, holding his fists up.

“Oh, yeah? Bring it on!” Joey said, setting up his Duel Disk. 

They both got their decks ready, but that’s when Yuma remembered something. 

“Aw, nuts!” he scrambled to get his deck back into it’s case. “I’m gonna’ be late!” 

“Wait! Where are you going?” Joey asked. 

“I’m going to Kalin’s Bookstore before it closes!” He ran off, waving goodbye to Yugi and Joey. 

Yugi blinked a couple times. “Um… well… I’m going to go home now Joey. See you tomorrow!” He started running back to Kame Game, which was just about a block away. 

Joey stared at him and then looked back to where Yuma had run off to.
