Odd thing to notice, but he’s not wearing any bracelets or rings.
Hmm … astute observation! I wonder why.
@waywaydowninside @firethatgrewsolow No rings or bracelets because this is for sure the fall 1971 tour, probably Manchester on November 24, when Wolfgang Heilemann also shot Jimmy and Jonesy backstage.
(Another way we have of at least narrowing this down is that Rob is holding Jimmy’s Giannini Craviola 12-string acoustic guitar, which Jimmy used only for “Tangerine”, and only from ZEPtember 1971 in Japan through the end of the US tour in June 1972. That shirt pins it the rest of the way to fall ‘71, though, as do the pics of Jimmy and Jonesy.)
There are two other Wolfgang H./LZ sessions that fall that you’ve seen before – Jimmy and Rob in front of red backgrounds, and the combo yellow paper/standing awkwardly in front of a blue wall session (Jimmy’s Zoso sweater, Bonzo’s glasses and mug of beer, etc) all from November 1971.
There are a couple of times that Rob can be seen wearing jewelry in 1971, notably the February 14 Music Disc and Echo awards (big silver bracelet), but that was offstage of course. There are a few shows sprinkled here and there where he wears maybe one piece on his wrists or hands, a small set of beads or a leather thong around his neck, but mostly, his hands and wrists are bare for concerts until Australia in February 1972, when he starts wearing a bracelet on each wrist at the very least.
I do adore these photos, and have reblogged them multiple times, including from @aluacrescente’s previous blog…but ‘71 all the way. :-)
