Day 14: Favorite song composed by Neil

Neil is my favorite composer probably ever of all time. I love everything he brought to this group and everything he brings his full passion to. Because I cannot answer this objectively if I widen the scope of the question, I’m choosing to focus on material Neil brought to CSNY.

Which brings me to “Ohio.” It’s one that truly shines because of the group. There’s a fair chance it wouldn’t have been written at all if not for David showing Neil the news, and there’s a fair chance it wouldn’t have been released so quickly if not for Nash agreeing to put it out in direct competition with another song he penned that was already climbing the charts (I think it might have been “Our House.”)

It’s alive as much today as it ever was, in so many ways including Neil’s plodding yet haunting minor riff, Stephen’s versatile guitar work, Graham’s spot on supporting vocal, and David’s desperate role as the town crier. No other group could have delivered “Ohio.”

i think it's pretty telling that I can do most of what I need to do related to my job in an entire day with like 90 minutes of focused time
