The Gregorian calendar we use today is basically just an administrative tool that was made back in 1582 based on solar cycle. It’s all about Earth’s trip around the sun, which is great for taxes. But we have these irregular months of 30 or 31 days that don't actually correspond to any natural rhythm. 

There is a lunar-based way of seeing time which isn't new and has been used for millennia. I’m fascinated by the fact that the moon gives us the actual month. It’s inherently feminine in its building up and letting go. If you’ve ever felt that unexplained surge of energy when the moon is bright, or that deep need to just disappear and rot in bed when it’s pitch black out, you know exactly what I mean. 

The thing is it’s so overlooked in our modern world. It feels like just another way the feminine is being ignored, dismissed as "too complicated" or "unreliable" because it doesn't fit into a neat, 12-month solar box. A true lunar month doesn't perfectly fit the sun’s cycle and we actually end up with 37 months every three years. That means every third year has a 13th month. It’s this beautiful, slightly chaotic "extra" space that maybe a rigid corporate grid just can't handle.

Corporate culture wants us to be constant, linear, and perfectly productive every single day just like machines, regardless of what our bodies are actually doing. I know I can’t exactly dismantle capitalism or rewrite the corporate rules. Those 9-to-5 schedules and expectations aren’t going anywhere, and they certainly don't care about a feminine cycle. But there is a girl in me who just isn't okay with that disconnect. So, I’ve been working on a website that uses the lunar cycle as the primary date. It’s a quiet rebellion, I guess.

I’m still in the middle of creating it. I think we deserve a place to track our lives that feels as mysterious as the moon itself. It’s just a simple, quiet way to finally start flowing with the cosmos.

I watched a video today about how creative success actually ruins people. We are always told that being famous or successful is the goal for the creative people but it usually leads to burnout which is really depressive to watch.

When you start making money from your art, it stops being for you. You start worrying about what your audience or your boss wants. This creates a conflict where you have to choose between your artistic integrity and your survival. The video uses Michelangelo as an example. Even though he is one of the most famous artists in history, he spent much of his life being frustrated because he was forced to work on projects he hated instead of what he actually cared about. Thomas Kinkade was another artist who became a massive commercial success but he ended up trapped by his own brand.

We try to turn every hobby into a "side hustle" now. But once we have to sell your creativity to pay rent, it is not a passion anymore. It becomes a product that you have to reproduce over and over again to keep others happy.

Today I listened to the audiobook that talks about Dan Ariely’s work on why we make "predictably irrational" choices. I found that it was about our obsession with keeping options open. We (as human beings in general) have this deep-seated fear of losing out, even on the things we don’t like. Ariely(The author) calls it an irrational fear of "closing doors".

He shares this fascinating experiment where he had students play a computer game with three doors on the screen. Each door led to different amounts of money, so the smart move was to find the door that paid the most and stay there. But he added a twist where if a student didn't click on a door for a while, it would start to shrink and eventually disappear. Even when those students knew they were losing money by leaving a high-paying room to "save" a disappearing door, they couldn't help themselves. To keep them from disappearing, they rushed back and forth to click on doors that paid even less than the others. In order to maintain their options, they were actually losing money.

Reading this today made me realize that it is exactly how we stay in lukewarm connections or hold onto old versions of ourselves just in case we need them later. We think we are being smart by staying flexible, but in reality, we are just living in a state of choice paralysis. It is that exact feeling of scrolling through Netflix for an hour and watching nothing, as there are endless options available and our cute little brain thinks, 'Oh wait!' what if the other one is better? We waste so much emotion and time to keep these dead-end doors that we never actually walk through the one that would make us happy.

(Love addiction- from the Eighth chapter of the "Celestine prophecy ")

I’ve been listening to the audiobook of Celestine prophecy and this got me thinking about the signs of the “relationship addiction” and how it actually shows up in our day-to-day. It is usually pretty subtle. It’s that tiny spike of anxiety when a text doesn’t come back immediately, or that weird urge to change the opinion on something just to match with your partners opinion. It is really easy to mistake an “energy addiction” for actual love. There is a stage where a new person becomes your entire world, and suddenly we feel more alive than you have in years. But if we’re being honest, that feeling is often less about the other person and more about the fact that they’re filling a void we haven’t figured out how to fill ourselves. When we’re addicted to someone’s energy, we’re essentially living in a state of hyper-vigilance. It’s a heavy way to live because we can never be fully present as we could be so focused on the partner’s energy. It’s an exhausting way to live because our happiness is always sitting in someone else’s pocket. The only way to really break that influence is to learn how to “complete the circle” solo. It sounds like a cliché, but there’s a massive difference between needing someone to keep us upright and wanting someone to walk beside us. When we find our own source of energy, it could be through our passions, our own sense of purpose, or just being comfortable in your own skin, this addiction eventually fades. This way, we can finally stop being a “half” looking for another “half.” When we become a whole person in our self, our relationships will not rely on survival anymore and we’ll finally be able to actually enjoy each other’s company.
