Everytime, Elain antis point out how she’s sweet not kind, I roll my eyes so hard because you can tell they themselves do not know the difference.
Elain is sweet because of her demeanour. She’s soft spoken, lovely, hopeful, optimistic.
This is the definition of kindness:
Kindness is the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. It involves performing selfless, caring actions for others or yourself without expecting praise or reward in return.
You are not going to tell me the character:
Who brought Feyre paints as a gift without expecting anything in return isn’t an act of kindness.
Who held a dinner for the batboys and her newly fae-made sister despite knowing it would put her at risk, isn’t an act of kindness.
Who warned her sister that her abusive ex was about to grab her, whilst still gagged, isn’t being thoughtful or selfless aka traits that are part of kindness.
Who helped to save Briar, again a selfless act, isn’t kind.
Who helps the twins out constantly with dinner isn’t kind.
Who made friends with two elusive twins AND brought them a gift without expecting anything in return isn’t kind.
Who went out of her way to get Azriel his own medicine after noticing his headaches, isn’t kind.
Elain making Feyre’d birthday cake was sweet AND an act of kindness especially the speech after
Who was the only one to get Nesta a birthday gift, isn’t kind.
“B-b-but Elain did this and she did that!” SO???
Why are we holding Elain to a different standard then these other characters? Imagine me saying Nesta isn’t kind because of her past with Feyre? Or Feyre isn’t kind because she hurt Nesta’s feelings? Do you see how unfair and stupid it is to diminish these characters by their mistakes/instances where they aren’t the nicest?
You can be kind and selfish. You can be sweet yet mean. These characters aren’t 2-d. They are multi-dimensional with all sorts of traits.
Elain IS sweet. Elain IS kind. She is both. Trying to say she isn’t kind because of some bs reason goes to show how biased YOU are and YOUR incompetence at reading.
Funnily enough, I never see peope explain why they don’t consider Elain kind. Its always, “she abandoned Nesta!” Meanwhile, Nesta was the one ignoring Elain. “She pushed Nesta’s boundaries!” And Nesta blamed their fathers’ death onto Elain which is 100 times worse then anything Elain said especially when she was doing it to absolve Nesta of her own guiit. “But the way she treats Lucien!” stfu. I genuinely wish she treats him like dirt in the next book just so some of you can realise and appreciate just how neutral and respectful she was of him.
Anyways, Elain slays being kind and sweet, the character the IC would go to war over. Their precious Elain - the one her own sisters would fight you over.
