“Do you recall December 23? That’s the day you told me about Zhangjing.”
Chaoze drops Yanjun off at therapy, just like he does every Thursday. This time Yanjun is excited to be there, because he thinks Yue Yue will be proud of him.
He shoots a wink at the receptionist, Jeffrey. In return Jeffrey let’s him into the office and rolls his eyes. He was somewhat of a friend to Yanjun, nothing like Chaoze, but they were always friendly to one another. He thought of Yue Yue the same way. Their relationships were strictly professional, but they all shared a strange friendship in Yanjun’s mind.
He plops down in the chair across from Yue Yue and props his feet onto the table. He knows his therapist considers it unprofessional and will swat his feet off, but he still does it every single time.
“You didn’t prop your feet up today? It’s the first time I haven’t gotten to nag at you in nearly 3 years.” Yue Yue lets out a chuckle and expects Yanjun to do the same. Instead the younger holds an annoyed look.
“Today isn’t like other days. Today isn’t a regular session, today I’m being interrogated.” Yanjun’s being over dramatic, and he knows it, but it doesn’t stop him from cutting Yue Yue off again so he could continue the story.
Yue Yue asks the same standard questions as always before he finally asked why Yanjun was bouncing in his seat like an over excited toddler. Yanjun’s gasps, pleased that he was asked about his information. “I happened to make a new friend!”
Yanjun groans, “You already know about all of this. Why do I have to say it all over again?”
“I don’t record out usual sessions. Like you said, today is different.” Yanjun rolls his eyes but complies, he also makes a point to lean in closer to the recorder on the table.
“Oh really?” Yue Yue asks. He finally thinks he’s made a break through with Yanjun. They talk about Zhangjing until the timer on Yue Yue’s phone goes off. “I guess that’s all for this week.”
They exchange the usual formalities and Yue Yue gives him a small pat on the shoulder before seeing him out. On his way out he sees his therapist and the secretary conversing for a moment and he has to wonder if it’s about him. ‘Maybe they’re proud of me after all’ he thinks.
Yanjun slides himself into the familiar passenger seat of Chaoze‘s car. The ride is home is mostly silent aside from the soft tunes spilling from the radio. Chaoze finally breaks the silence, “The doorman said someone came by asking if you were out, they didn’t leave a name but I’m guessing it was Zhangjing.” Yanjun’s eyes light up and the mention of his ‘friends’ name.
“Hold on, you didn’t tell me that part before. Zhangjing was looking for you? The doorman saw him?” Yue Yue’s brows are furrowed and the whole mood shifts.
Yanjun rolls his eyes for the umpteenth time, “You don’t listen very well, do you?”
