Summary:
Rain mixes with blood on Pero’s face. He tries to blink it away, but one eye remains blinded by it, clouded with red. The cut across his brow and cheek burns hot with pain. The ground beneath him is nothing but mud, churned up by too many heavy boots, earth soaked with water and gore. Sucking at his feet when he tries to lift them, making every step a struggle when he needs to move, and at the same time deathly slippery when he needs to stand firm.

William and Pero are hired by the same man. It's not the first time they have ended up fighting side-by-side. But it is the first time William saves Pero's life.
This was originally planned to be part of a series comprised of three one-shots. Parts of the second one are already written and I will try to finish that, but it is always hard to say what I will be able to do in the end. For now this stands alone.
