If you just want to buy one of them, I’d say: Dragon Age: Origins. Because it’s the beginning of the story and stuff. 

Although I can only recommend buying both because they are such amazing games. 

Buuut, if you ask wich one I personally prefer I have to admit I played DAII before DA:O, haha. So somehow I have a better relation to the second game and to it’s characters… And the combat system is much more fun compared to the first game. (And I understood it without the huge backstory knowledge - Although after playing DA:O the game was a much much better experience, haha.)

If you don’t mind DA:O being a little outdate concerning graphics and combat and I would recommend buying it. (Because wow the story THE STORY THE SOUNDTRACK THE FEELING)
