the emancipation of mimi(RELISTEN)

honestly i was so unfair to this album, it took me a few relistens to appreciate it more, imo its a perfect started for anyone looking to get into mariah carey.

album review : charmbracelet - mariah carey

when listening to mariahs music it feels like a total shame that alot of people know mimi as "the christmas lady" while her xmas album did recently get certified diamond. but her prime really does extend before and after the xmas stuff and "all i want for christmas is you" and charmbracelet belongs in that prime. charmbracelet is her 8th studio release, and her first post glitter fiasco and its pretty much the formula of every album shes put out; yearning, feeling herself, and gospel(as seen in emancipation, here for it all, and memoirs) but the album does contain alot of well written songs, however, it shows just like emancipation that the features really kill her songs, and its always her solo songs that really stand out, in a song like "you got me" feat. jay z and freeway, from the surface it looks like jay z is gnna kill it on the song, no. no he doesnt. also despite having well written songs, the album doesnt stand out vocally at all; it just has a somber feel which doesnt feel synced to mimis sound and overall brand. where emancipation really reflects the improvement. overall this project does have its hits, but definitely not one of her standout projects.
