I'm revisiting Kuroshitsuji lately and am quite amused by the fame or renaissance it is experiencing as of late, as far as general interest and flow in new critiques, comes.

I've just finished the Book of Circus animated version and was accompanying a variety of voices reviewing Kuroshitsuji as a whole, as well as this season itself.

The focal negative point in critique I see, mostly, Is in how "inappropriate" Ciel's and Sebastian's relationship is in dynamic or portrayal, at times. It is seen as something that puts off people or simply diminishes the show's enjoyment for many.

To me, their relationship is complex, absurdly deep, and multifaceted. Precisely because one is a human child absurdly twisted by its despairing multiple terrible experiences, while the other is a basically otherworldly omnipotent being only interested, ultimately, in qualified self satisfaction. Everything we see is simply what happens when we mix these two, when they will need each other, until one of them meets their end. That's why I don't like reductionist ways of seeing their interactions.

So it made me think, that what we consider "good", "quality", "believable", "appropriate"... Has, primarily, so much to do with our personal values and our open mindedness level. The same show and scene can be seen by a group of different people and while some will say it was shallow and poor, inappropriate or scandalous, others are able to sing praise and drive an infinitude of meaning and deep connections to all human forms of art or organized form of knowledge. It is quite interesting to see...

It is always curious to me how fervent some people are, while judging entertainment, about what is right and what is wrong. It appears like some sort of collective performative morality check on things. Do some have such a constricted manner of living that they can't let it go even while they sleep? Like, do you ever relax? It is a matter of individually, I think.

I personally view fiction and entertainment as, exactly that; entertainment and fiction. You just enjoy it as if you were dreaming. People with these strict and unchanging ways of right and wrong, are, many times, not able to enjoy something for what it is or even for what it could be.
