he already felt out of his depth. fuck. “well, i mean, i looked up some stuff, and i think a wizard or a warlock could be cool.” he tilted his head, looking down at the papers spread out in front of them like staring hard enough would make any of it feel less overwhelming. “but, like, i’m open to suggestions.” a beat passed, and he rubbed awkwardly at the back of his neck. “i just think i’m better at supporting people than being up in the frontlines, you know?” his eyes flicked over the character sheets again, brows furrowed as he tried to picture it. “like, what if my character’s short too?” he said, huffing out a nervous laugh. “that’s not intimidating.” which was maybe a stupid thing to worry about in a game with dragons and magic and whatever else, but he was already overthinking it, so he might as well commit.

Max unlaced her fingers and picked the journal up again. "Once we have combat out of the way, we can start building our characters more by what race they are. Mine's a half-elf."

"yeah, no, i heard you." he shrugged. "i'm only trying this out because we're friends." arch already had a hard time feeling like a person most of the time, so pretending to be someone else did not feel appealing. but he'd try anything once!! and his best friends liked it too, so how bad could it be??

"We will go slow since it's your first time. It's best to start out with your character; mine is a rogue, which means she is stealthy and deceptive. Have you thought of what you want to be? I could easily see you as a paladin or cleric."
