𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐨𝐧.

            youra  looked  down  at  the  sketches  in  front  of  her  ,  the  metal  straw  of  her  iced  matcha  latte  placed  between  her  lips  .  in  reality  ,  the  girl  knew  nothing  of  fashion  aside  from  what  was  available  for  purchase  in  stores  ,  so  when  she  sees  someone  talking  about  fabric  ,  she  has  no  idea  what  she’s  meant  to  say  in  this  current  moment  .  ‘  um  . . .  do  you  want  me  to  be  honest  ?  ’  she  asks  the  question  carefully  ,  biting  her  lip  as  she  looks  up  at  the  woman  before  her  .  ‘  i  only  ask  because  like  . . .  i  could  give  you  my  opinion  ,  but  then  you’d  end  up  hating  me  for  said  opinion  and  i  like  to  keep  it  truthful  .  ’  youra  takes  the  fabric  pieces  and  moves  them  in  closer  to  her  for  a  better  look  .  ‘  this  one  is  ugly  ,  ’  youra  speaks  honestly  and  slides  it  away  from  her  .  ‘  i  feel  like  it’d  wash  me  out  and  i  don’t  like  being  washed  out  .  these  other  two  are  great  ,  though  .  i  never  thought  i’d  actually  like  purple  .  ’

            the  last  time  youra  had  been  featured  on  a  gossip  blog  ,  it  had  been  at  the  time  of  her  accident  ,  and  she  was  thankful  that  her  parents  were  able  to  shut  down  the  story  before  it  spread  too  much  .  it  was  exhausting  ,  really  ,  having  to  watch  her  every  move  and  make  sure  no  one  overheard  her  when  she  was  out  and  about  .  ‘  come  on  ,  baz  .  the  way  they  act  like  we’re  their  only  source  of  entertainment  is  weird  .  just  the  other  day  i  saw  some  exposing  youra  instagram  account  that  was  so  stupid  .  according  to  them  ,  i’m  screwing  one  of  my  professors  .  ’   if  youra  decided  she  wanted  to  sleep  with  an  older  person  ,  it  definitely  wouldn’t  be  with  someone  who  had  more  grey  hair  than  her  own  dad  .  she  sticks  her  tongue  out  towards  him  .  ‘  vacation  places  ,  as  always  .  i’m  getting  the  itch  that  if  i’m  in  new  york  any  longer  ,  then  i’m  going  to  lose  my  mind  .  ’  she  passes  over  her  phone  with  ease  .  ‘  take  me  to  turks  and  caicos  ,  please  .  ’

            the  place  she  was  in  could  only  be  classified  as  weird  .  if  it  were  up  to  her  ,  youra  would  have  chosen  somewhere  a  little  livelier  —  somewhere  where  the  people  didn’t  look  like  they  only  wanted  to  talk  about  their  hedge  fund  or  whatever  boring  story  she  doesn’t  want  to  hear  .  ‘  aw  ,  you’re  so  sweet  .  ’  what’s  the  saying  she’d  always  hear  her  dad  say  ?  never  spend  your  own  money  to  stay  rich  ?  or  ,  something  like  that  .  so  no  ,  she  would  not  spend  her  own  money  on  a  simple  six  dollar  plate  of  sweet  potato  fries  .  youra  leans  a  bit  onto  the  bar  as  the  bartender  takes  the  order  ,  and  gives  a  soft  smile  as  a  thank  you  .  her  head  shakes  ,  lithe  fingers  tucking  dark  locks  behind  her  ear  .  ‘  neither  —  my  dad  ,  actually  .  ki siwoo  ,  if  you  hadn’t  heard  .  ’

             even  though  new  york  has  been  youra’s  home  for  the  last  sixteen  years  ,  she  is  fully  aware  that  not  everyone  she  bumps  into  is  going  to  be  a  friend  .  there  have  been  plenty  of  times  (  far  too  many  to  count  )  where  she  found  herself  screaming  with  someone  on  the  sidewalk  about  who  bumped  into  who  .  luckily  ,  johnny  has  saved  her  on  numerous  occasions  ,  but  she’s  happy  that  this  time  around  it’s  valentina  and  not  a  complete  stranger  .  ‘  are  you  sure  ?  ’  she  asked  while  immediately  shooting  out  a  hand  to  help  valentina  steady  herself  .  youra  nearly  forgets  about  her  things  that  have  spilled  on  the  museum’s  steps  .  ‘  yah  !  don’t  step  on  that  !  ’  youra  shouts  at  a  couple  walking  up  the  stairs  ,  moving  her  hand  in  a  slight  shooing  motion  before  her  chanel  compact  mirror  is  crushed  .  ‘  yeah  ,  i’m  okay  and  thank  you  .  ’  she  accepts  the  items  that  valentina  picked  up  .  ‘  no  ,  no  coffee  i’m  fine  .  ’  her  face  scrunches  though  ,  when  valentina  mentions  owing  her  a  coffee  .  ‘  if  by  owing  you  a  cup  you  mean  me  coming  in  to  buy  a  cup  for  myself  then  you  have  a  deal  .  ’

            upon  seeing  that  it’s  baz’s  shoulder  she  clipped  ,  youra’s  features  soften  further  .  bumping  into  one  another  on  the  steps  of  the  met  was  a  common  reoccurrence  for  the  duo  ,  from  the  time  they  were  younger  to  even  now  ,  as  youra  holds  a  badge  with  her  name  and  picture  on  it  .  her  shoulders  shrug  a  bit  as  she  crouches  down  to  finally  pick  up  the  remaining  contents  of  her  purse  ,  slightly  cursing  herself  for  carrying  such  a  small  bag  .  ‘  it’s  kinda  hard  to  ignore  a  walking  giant  coming  towards  you  ,  ’  youra  chuckles  softly  as  she  stands  to  full  height  ,  and  thanks  him  for  the  items  he  picked  up  .  her  eyes  squint  slightly  as  she  looks  up  at  him  .  for  once  ,  the  stairs  close  the  several  inches  in  their  height  difference  .  ‘  hmm  ,  that  depends  on  where  you’re  trying  to  take  me  .  if  it  rhymes  with  gumbo  i’m  not  going  .  ’

            youra  never  understood  the  need  for  gossip  sites  .  to  her  ,  they  were  nothing  more  than  a  bitter  soul  who  needed  to  make  other’s  lives  miserable  ,  and  she  didn’t  understand  how  such  stalking  was  seen  as  okay  at  their  expense  .  ‘  you  and  i  both  know  they’re  stupid  ,  baz  .  ’  her  shoulder  shrugs  nonchalantly  ,  looking  up  from  her  own  phone  after  double  tapping  a  picture  on  instagram  .  she  looks  at  his  phone  then  ,  and  while  . . .  sure  she  could  agree  with  the  headline  ,  she  wasn’t  going  to  admit  that  .  ‘  crazy  schmazy  ,  ’  youra  hums  out  .  the  girl  didn’t  get  it  ,  really  ,  the  way  that  people  would  eat  up  this  kind  of  content  as  if  it  were  real  journalism  —  is  this  what  they  went  into  debt  for  ?  ‘  they  have  nothing  else  better  to  do  but  be  obsessed  with  is  .  their  own  lives  are  sad  and  boring  so  this  is  what  they  do  to  make  it  interesting  .  ’

            youra  had  never  been  to  this  lunch  spot  before  ,  but  it  was  some  place  her  dad  mentioned  when  he  said  he  wanted  to  catch  up  with  her  .  she  wasn’t  ignoring  her  dad  per  say  ,  but  she  hated  the  financial  district  —  the  amount  of  people  walking  around  in  the  same  color  made  her  itchy  .  even  now  ,  as  she  makes  herself  comfortable  at  the  bar  while  waiting  for  her  dad  ,  youra  feels  so  oddly  out  of  place  in  a  bright  pink  dress  that  stood  out  like  a  sore  thumb  amongst  blacks  and  blues  .  ‘  with  what  ?  ’  youra  toys  with  the  straw  of  her  ice  water  .  ‘  buying  me  a  plate  of  sweet  potato  fries  while  i  wait  ?  ’

            working  at  the  museum  was  either  a  good  time  or  utterly  boring  ,  and  this  time  ,  youra  was  feeling  the  latter  .  the  funniest  thing  about  it  was  the  fact  that  she  didn’t  even  need  this  internship  ,  but  it  was  better  than  sitting  around  her  apartment  all  day  doing  nothing  more  than  spending  money  she  didn’t  need  to  be  .  far  too  expensive  heels  click  on  the  steps  of  the  met  as  she  checks  her  phone  ,  a  little  frustrated  that  her  driver  was  nowhere  to  be  found  (  traffic  was  horrible  so  could  she  really  be  upset  with  johnny  ?  )  her  shoulder  rams  into  another  ,  and  her  purse’s  contents  spill  once  the  purse  hits  the  steps  .  ‘  oh  shit  ,  ’  youra  mumbles  .  ‘  i’m  sorry  —  i  didn’t  mean  to  . . .  i  was  not  paying  attention  .  ’
