VYLET PONY RETROSPECTIVE: CUTIEMARKS, and THE THINGS THAT BIND US
8:27, June 22nd, Summer of ā12ā¦
CUTIEMARKS is such an important album to me, spiritually. I started listening to Vylet Pony shortly before the release of this album, and I have fallen back on it consistently, move after move, heartbreak after heartbreak. It shaped my worldview, how I look at myself, how I look at other people. And above all, it made me adore my life as a creator.
Itās really hard for me to describe the incredible impact this thing has had on my life (not to mention the trauma bonding), so instead, Iāll tell you this:
The last time I visited the beach near my hometown in Depoe Bay, Oregon, I wrote āSING A SONG ABOUT LIFEā on the boulders in charcoal. Since Iām going back there this summer for the first time in six years, Iāll do it again.
While it may not be the greatest album ever made, CUTIEMARKS has a special little diamond studded box in my heart, and I have so much to thank for the hope and empathy that it instilled in little me.
Thank you, @vyl3tpwny, for encouraging me to keep on keepinā on.
Favorite song: I Donāt Need to Be Fixed
Favorite lyric: Youāre just a kid running down / a dark and beaten path / I never listened, Iāll set a flame to the night / ācause this road you failed just needs light.
