It’s been over a week, but I finally heard from them again. You don’t know how relieved I am to still be able to contact them. But with the ongoing assault on the Palestinian people, it is still scary to not be able to know where they are or what is happening. I consider these people my family though I haven’t known them very long. And all I want is to make sure that they can leave this situation and be safe. The area where her and her son are seeking shelter has been raided over the last week and the death toll is heartbreaking. Samah worries that she will not be able to care for her son Ammar or make it out of Gaza and on the path to Egypt when she is able.

Currently, another roadblock in making her goal is the surgery that Ammar will need to be strong enough to make that trip if it ever comes. The treatment costs roughly 4,000 dollars and she will need it in a very short time so that no complications develop from waiting too long to operate. With this money and anything else you can give Ammar could continue to have a chance at life and the possibility of escape with his mother.

I ask all of you to please consider donating, sharing, and lending as much support as you can. We appreciate any support that you can give no matter how small or how big. UPDATE: there is a a very shaky ceasefire agreement on the table this time that has paused the bombing in Gaza and has moved the brunt of Israeli violence to the West Bank. In the meantime, the Rafah border is now open, so now more than ever is my friend Samah’s best chance to take her son and run while she still can.

There are obstacles on their path to Egypt and the occupation has not been kind. The cost of food is rising due to the closing of the Rafah Crossing, even basic foods like bread have reached astronomical prices and medicine has become nearly unattainable.

In my time communicating with Samah, we have managed altogether to provide for her and her son: clothing, food, formula, and medication. But the occupation keeps these things from the citizenry at high costs. Making it nearly impossible for them to continue Ammar’s treatments and pay their way through the Rafah crossing, which I hope will reopen soon. But your efforts as donors have already helped so much. This family depends on the kindness of others and you have shown that, and we hope you continue to do so.

Right now, 9 month old Ammar is in critical condition in the ICU. Samah is doing everything she can to fight for his life but they cost of the treatment is high and their few remaining hospital infrastructures are overwhelmed. It’s been over a week, but I finally heard from them again. You don’t know how relieved I am to still be able to contact them. But with the ongoing assault on the Palestinian people, it is still scary to not be able to know where they are or what is happening. I consider these people my family though I haven’t known them very long. And all I want is to make sure that they can leave this situation and be safe. The area where her and her son are seeking shelter has been raided over the last week and the death toll is heartbreaking. Samah worries that she will not be able to care for her son Ammar or make it out of Gaza and on the path to Egypt when she is able.

Currently, another roadblock in making her goal is the surgery that Ammar will need to be strong enough to make that trip if it ever comes. The treatment costs roughly 4,000 dollars and she will need it in a very short time so that no complications develop from waiting too long to operate. With this money and anything else you can give Ammar could continue to have a chance at life and the possibility of escape with his mother.

I ask all of you to please consider donating, sharing, and lending as much support as you can. We appreciate any support that you can give no matter how small or how big. It’ll be instrumental in getting Samah and Ammar: food, clothing, medicine, shelter, and treatment. Ammar’s heart condition is worsening and he’s put up a good fight but he can’t do this alone. Above this message is a comparison of his health before and after the start of the genocide … when his treatments became less and less available.
