As I mentioned before, it’s pretty much underbaked one, since, despite it had been existing for, at least, 6 years now, I didn’t really have people to build it out with. And I kinda suck in solo work, especially when others don’t feel as enthusiastically about something as I do.
ANYWAY
My labstuck is not “purebred” so to say – it is a mix of lab- and humanstuck, mostly supposed to be centered around detective and action plots. It follows a story of a runaway lab experiment KK that gets shot during his escape and passes out in someone’s yard. This yard appears to be John’s, who, conveniently, was hanging out with his friends, when they heard the rattle of trash cans. When they find KK they are, obviously, scared and not knowing what to do, but it will be stupid to try and take a humanoid creature with horns, fangs and claws to the hospital, so he, for some time, ends up in John’s house, later moving to Dave’s flat, since it would be easier to avoid rarely appearing Bro, than John’s dad.
During all this time those five idiots become friends and help KK (who, basically, only knows these two letters from his name) to reveal the secrets of this mysterious lab he had escaped. And the more they dig, the more convoluted it becomes, with investigation now holding loose threads of the story about a fallen meteor, a sudden and very haste construction of an extremely secluded research facility, brilliant scientist dr. Scratch and a local tragedy of 12 kids going missing in a span of a year. While they collect evidence, captors won’t shy from any measures to try and return what’s “rightfully theirs” – including sending KK’s former friends and labmates after him. So they must be quick in order to finish their investigation, until it becomes too late

The Wizard of the Emerald Castle film series is widely regarded as one of modern Beforus' defining fantasy franchises.
Following the adventures of the legendary conjurer Harold Kettle, who lives in a secluded tower and battles the forces of evil, the series became famous not only for its spectacular production values and star-studded cast, but also for its grim reputation. To this day, Wizard is remembered as the deadliest film saga ever made: at least three actors and two stunt performers lost their lives during production, while dozens of cast and crew members suffered serious injuries attempting yet another dangerously ambitious practical effect conceived by the director.
The release of every new installment was followed by another wave of accidents, as devoted fans attempted to recreate the spells and potions seen on screen. Despite the filmmakers' repeated warnings that everything depicted in the films was fictional and should never be imitated, the tragedies only came to an end after the final movie was released.
The fate of Eridan Ampora, who portrayed Harold Kettle himself, is equally noteworthy. The actor often admitted that he had intended Wizard to be nothing more than a stepping stone in his career. Yet despite later successes in biopics, detective films, documentaries, and adventure movies, generations of audiences would remember him for only one role: that wizard from the Emerald Castle.

So I made a quick redesign for Signless' outfit, while the idea was still in my head (detailed explanation is under the cut)
The entire outfit was designed around one simple idea: it had to feel practical and believable for Alternia. Given Kankri's background, the best he could realistically hope for is the help of a few rustblood blacksmiths hiding in resistance camps, so every piece of clothing should look like something that could be stolen, scavenged, traded for, or put together by hand. The color palette reflects that philosophy as well. Most of the outfit consists of muted grays, blacks, and washed-out tones that help him blend into his surroundings. The only striking accent is red, and even that remains almost entirely concealed beneath his cloak, only becoming visible when he takes it off.
The first layer is just regular underwear—which, thankfully, can stay off-screen. Over that comes a lightweight, futuristic take on chainmail. Like Karkat, Kankri is primarily a melee fighter, so protecting his torso and forearms is essential. The chainmail and bracers provide solid protection against close-range attacks without sacrificing mobility.
The next layer consists of loose-fitting trousers: a reworked version of the Pants of the Righteousness. Instead of the original skin-tight, waist-high leggings, they're now a pair of baggy pants that are intentionally a size too large, as if they had been borrowed from someone else. Cloth wraps around the calves keep the excess fabric from getting in the way while also serving as a little nod to the Seer's pajamas. The footwear follows the same philosophy. Lightweight, flexible, and nearly silent, the boots are designed for speed and stealth rather than protection. His legs are left almost completely unarmored, making them an obvious weak point, but it's a compromise Kankri willingly accepts in exchange for maximum agility.
Over the chainmail he wears a loose tunic with slits along the sleeves, giving his shoulders a full range of motion and allowing him to swing a weapon freely from virtually any angle—an important advantage in close combat. The outfit is finished with a red sash, serving as a subtle mark of identity and making it easier for allies to recognize Kankri amid the chaos of battle.
The cloak is the final—and by far the most important—piece of the ensemble. Beyond shielding him from the elements and helping him disappear into a crowd, it serves a far more critical purpose: concealing his horns. Among trolls, horns are every bit as unique as fingerprints are to humans, and in many cases even more recognizable than blood color or visible mutations. Leaving them exposed would make Kancri instantly identifiable to anyone who had seen him before. Covering them is therefore not simply a stylistic choice, but an essential part of staying alive.
I think way too often about the fact, that alpha trolls also started their session at 6 sweeps old. And for the longest time I wanted to imagine how they would look at the start and draw them.

I don't remember if I've talked about this before, but I believe both Vantases were among the strongest players of their sessions. The only difference is that Karkat took responsibility for the team, whereas Kankri ultimately put his own interests above the common cause. Part of the reason for this was his visions as the Seer — too vivid, too revealing, and truly terrifying.
Because of this, I headcanon that Kankri was one of the first to awaken on Prospit, long before his session even began. Each time, sleep carried him too high, all the way to the clouds, which gave him incredibly intense visions of the past and the future.
But while on Alternia these revelations came to him in adulthood, when he was capable of comprehending and accepting such heavy information, on Beforus everything happened differently. There, he was only six sweeps old. And back then, he lacked the Mind to calculate what his refusal to experience full-fledged dreams would lead to — just so he wouldn't wake up with the sunset in a cold sweat anymore, living entire lifetimes in a measly eight hours.
I, personally, believe that dancestors should be shown more in casual scenarios like basic yapping, and being lukewarm like they are and I will die on that hill
