“I…I just –” you said as you ran a hand through your hair, trying to suppress the yawn that was trying to escape you. You tilted your head up slightly to glance at the menu, but didn’t even bother to read it before you looked back to the barista. “Just fuck me up.” 

A chuckle escaped the barista’s lips at your words. You didn’t doubt he had heard the same string of words at least once a week by a desperate college student. “Alright,” he said, grabbing the largest cup size that carried before turning to look back at you. “Any special requests?”

You put your elbows down on the counter, resting your head in your hands as you looked at the barista, resisting the urge to close your eyes. “Give me something with enough caffeine and sugar to get me through two lecture halls.” You hummed for a second before you added, “with extra whip cream.”

“Gotcha,” he said with a smile as he moved away from the counter to start concocting something.

You must have dozed off for a split second, because suddenly there was a cup in front of you. “Sorry,” you said as you reached for your wallet to pay for the coffee.

“No problem,” he told you before telling you the price of your “just fuck me up” coffee. After you paid, he offered you a “good luck!” instead of “have a great day”.

You gave him a weak smile as you popped the lid off the cup and sucked up some of the whipped cream, delighted to find that he had drizzled it with chocolate and caramel. You replaced the lid and ran your tongue over your lips, turning around and starting your trek across campus to your first class of the day. 

As you brought the drink up to your lips, you noticed the word HEY! written by your thumb in tiny, messy capital letters. After taking a hearty gulp and effectively burning the front portion of your tongue, you moved your thumb away from the word to find a line the spiraled around the cup. You turned the cup in your hands, following the line to an end at the tip of an arrow, which pointed at more words that read I’ll fuck you up anytime ;), accompanied by the name Luke and a phone number.

“Oh my god,” you groaned, contradicting the smile that was perking up in the corners of your lips. “It’s too early for this.”
