Young Feminist

I was in RE learning about gender equality, a subject I always support heatedly when in class, and she got on the subject of the way women are viewed in the past. She got onto the subject of fashion. 

She told us how both of her granddads made their wives wear skirts and would not allow them to wear trousers. At all.

After on of the husband’s died, the wife wore trousers and didn’t give to flying shits. On the other hand, the other husband died, the wife never wore trousers, she refused and thought it a case of disrespect if she DISOBEYED her husband. 

Jesus Christ people, the man was dead and yet she still chose not to wear a piece of clothing because her husband told her 40 years before hand that she couldn’t wear them in the 60′s! 

Yet today girls are expected to wear short skirts, see-through leggings and skinny jeans. We can wear what we want as long as it shows off our arses and almost all our thighs! 

I have some self-love instructions for you to follow!

1. Grab a pack of rolos

2. Eat the whole packet except one.

3. Go up to someone you love 

4. Say “#lastrolo”

5. Eat last rolo.

Hi I’m Charlie. I’m 14 years old and everyday I experience sexism.

And over the years I have become what I know to be a feminist. You may be thinking- but she’s too young to be a feminist but I tell you this- at age 5 I was a feminist I just didn’t know the word you called it.

I understand that we, females, have a better quality life- so to say- than what we had 100 years ago, even 30 years ago. But what I do know is that it’s still not equal and it’s still not fair.

Let’s be honest girls, if a man had one period in their lifetime, all pads and tampons would be free, because of the “hardship” they are put through once in their lifetime. Let’s be honest girls, if a man worn a g-string or skimpy underwear, and was raped the court would tell him he was asking for it. Let’s be honest girls, if a woman who did worse work than him, got a promotion that he worked really hard to get- all hell would break loose and he would not be told he is being over-dramatic.

Let’s be honest girls, the world isn’t done changing yet.

I plan to start small and go big. I plan, and that plan is in motion so far, to start with my class, to move onto my school, and finally finish with the whole of the human race knowing about feminism and equality for not only women but men too.

Why should we back down and accept it, when we shouldn’t have too? Why should we not do anything about it, when we have the option for change? Why should we put our lives in the hands of greedy people who will lower our living standards?
