…NOAA’s Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) looked down from space and captured the shadow of the Moon moving across Earth’s sunlit face:

This sequence, compiled from 13 images, shows the shadow crossing the Indian Ocean and moving past Indonesia and Australia into Oceania and the Pacific Ocean. The bright spot in the center of each disk is the reflection of sunlight directly back at the NASA’s Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC). Gif credit: NASA, NOAA/DSCOVR

Japanese Himawari satellite captured the sight as well. Yasuhiko Sumida from the Japan Meteorological Agency stitched their images together into a video here. 

The event was also filmed above an airplane:

The flight from Alaska to Hawaii on 9 March 2016 was intentionally rerouted and delayed by 25 minutes so that the passengers can experience the total solar eclipse.
