I've been seeing arguments over the color choices for the Flower Cafe T-Shirt, and I wanna clear up some misunderstandings here
I've mentioned this in a reblog, but I'll bring it up here again:
Blue is NOT the only one sharing a color palette with another character
Both Yellow and Orange are also sharing the same palette
Seth and Green are the only exception due to Green and Purple being on opposite spectrums
It should also be noted that Seth's palette has also been changed to be less saturated
The only character who is the most accurate besides Yellow is Green
When you try to fix the colors and values of each character, not only do the colors and values clash, but you also run into production issues (which I will elaborate later)
It is true that values must stand out in order for a design to be seen from afar, but considering the Tie-Dye itself is already so colorful, adding more colors will just create an unnecessary clash
Don't get me wrong, I also think the values are ugly, but I can see what they're trying to go for
Now here's the most important part of T-shirt design: Printing
A General rule to keep in mind when printing T-Shirts is to limit your color palette to at least 4-6 colors
This is to keep production cost as low as possible, and to avoid as many errors as possible
Each Flower's sprite as at least 2-3 distinct colors, which totals to at least 14-21 colors that would need to be printed (not including the shirt itself) if they kept the og palettes
If you do not like the T-Shirt design, that is totally fine
Like I said earlier, I think it's ugly
and it's a bad design for swapping around and changing character palettes improperly in order to fit the "Union" theme (I think) they're trying to aim for
But it is Not white washing, especially in comparison to actual white-washing merch
