I can totally see L and Takada being gossiping buddies at university, like her randomly sitting down on his same bench one day, complaining about something to herself, and L just nonchalantly agreeing with her, while he has his eyes on his book. Takada then asks him why he holds it like that, L explains it and she mutters something like, "hm, you sure are like the others are saying..." L asks her what she means by that and she is kinda surprised he hasn't heard anything and she tells him a few rumors going around, but toning down the harshness. Maybe she even points at some people that have been saying those things and adds that she finds them a little annoying, so not to mind their words that much. L then thinks the conversation is over, but Takada starts gossiping a bit about them and L is at first confused but slowly more intrigued. And this turns in them meeting up at the same bench, without actually arranging it, and Takada updating him and him bringing his detective skills to the table, trying to clear up doubts about months old drama. Like, they are not really making fun of people, but just discussing and breaking things down and speculating on how it will all end.
