Race knowing heâs pronounced Erster wrong, he just wanted everyone to listen to him and laugh after what happened the day before. His âto prove they still aliveâ joke wasnât enough.
I made these newsie drawings over a year ago and still love them
Wait like what is Santa Fe to Crutchie?
Mostly everybody knows Jack wants to go to Santa Fe to have belonging/family without extreme hardship, but why does Crutchie also want to go?
Now that I think about it, kinda seems like he wouldâve been okay with not going at all? And just indulges Jacks dreams to have a little hope in something. And if Iâm jaded enough about it, perhaps only thinks about Santa Fe to make Jack happy????
Crutchie calls Jack crazy for his dreams, and only really thinks about it to follow along with Jackâs silly lead, and when he needed a pick me up in the refuge
if anything, Iâd think Crutchie liked to believe in Santa Fe because he wants to have someplace where his disability wonât get in the way of his joy. He tells Jack that he has no need for folks, and has friends as it is, so the found family aspect is not something he needs. Jack uses the example of Crutchieâs limp being uncared for in Santa Fe to persuade him to come with, and that guides Crutchieâs happiness for the rest of Santa Fe prologue before inevitably being sucked out the daydream.
In Letter From The Refuge he initially and primarily says he misses being on the rooftop, and then only mentions Santa Fe to seemingly keep Jack optimistic, and because itâll make him âfine. Good as new.â Which Iâm 99% sure is referring to no longer having a bad leg.
I donât know this is kinda just brain mush going around in my head. I would rather most of this not actually be the case but what am I even thinking đ˘ honestly donât even read this
IIII THINK ABOUT THIS A LOT. okay. i think it's like. a lot of it is to do with the way jack makes it sound.
"no one cares about a gimp leg in santa fe, you just hop a palomino, you ride in style!"
and crutchie pictures how it would be:
"feature me, ridin' in style!"
and then jack proceeds to make it sound even BETTER:
"i bet a few months of clean air, you could toss that crutch for good!"
and i would bet he says this stuff a lot, like anytime he and crutchie talk about it, and stuff like it. and the things about being treated fairly without having to ask for it and all of that. i think crutchie also just loves and cares about jack and wants to be where he is, but i think it matters to him more that he be capable of doing what the others are capable of doing. in new york, as a newsie, everyone walks. he is expected to be able to walk, and he can, but not as easily as the others can. in santa fe, or at least jack's version of it, everyone rides horses, which he could do just as well as anyone, theoretically. he doesn't want to stick out or be seen as weak. just earlier today, i was thinking about the scene in the movie where they go to bust him out of the refuge, and when he says he can't walk too well right then, jack says they'll carry him, and he says he'll never let anyone carry him. in the very first scene in the musical, he says he doesn't want the other guys to see he hasn't been walking well. jack makes santa fe sound like this place where his disability won't slow him down; where it might even disappear. do i think crutchie believes "a few months of clean air" will heal a paralyzed leg? no. hell, i'm not sure jack does, either, i think he's just on a roll and trying to cheer up his friend. but i think crutchie wants to believe it, like, so badly. the way he starts crying on "watch me stand; watch me run"? i've posted about this before, but i think that's him trying so hard to believe it, to convince himself, but knowing it's hopeless.
spent so long tracking down this pic so i could make this

what is his problem
I just now realized that the humans in Wall-E are a narrative foil to the robots, and specifically to Wall-E and EVE.
The robots were designed for a specific purpose, but through curiosity and exploration expanded their capabilities greatly.
The humans were capable of so much, but through blind trust, fear, and complacency they limited themselves.
The newsies of New York who simply wanted fair working conditions.
The newsies of New York who likely were discriminated against on the job due to their race, gender, religion, etc.
The newsies of New York who never got a childhood because they had to spend it working.
Crutchie and Spot know each other and have a very deep mutual respect for each other
No one knows abt it until one day theyâre in Brooklyn and Spotâs like âHEY CRUTCHIEâ
I started using Head and Shoulders ten years ago for itchy scalp and dandruff, and then for ten years I have not had itchy scalp and dandruff, so I thought âwhy do I still buy shampoo to combat itchy scalp and dandruff when I do not have itchy scalp and dandruff,â so I stopped buying the shampoo for itchy scalp and dandruff and can you guess I have now? Can you predict what currently afflicts me? Itâs alright if you canât because apparently I fuckin couldnât either
Cutting something out of your life because you think you donât need it any more only to realize that it was in fact working as intended and preventing a problem that will return should you stop doing this is a good experiment to run periodically with something small like dandruff shampoo, lest you start to think it would be a good idea to do this with like letâs say public health and the social safety net and vaccines
I had a liver transplant when I was 14 and like six months later I was chatting with my surgeon and he said âthereâs gonna come a time, probably when youâre a teenager, where youâre gonna think, âI feel great, why am I still taking all this medication? I havenât needed it in years.â and youâre gonna want to stop taking all this medication. Guess whatâs gonna happen then? Youâre gonna go into rejection and your liver is gonna start failing, and youâre gonna be dying again, and weâre gonna have to find you another liver. So donât do that.â And I said âwhy the fuck would anyone do that?â and he said âpeople are stupid.â
every once in a while when I get annoyed by a pharmacy or donât wanna get out of bed to do my drugs I think âugh, this is dumb, why do I do this?â and that conversation slams into me like a truck and I remember that I am, in fact, stupid

Crutchie: *frowns*
Jack: *gasps angrily* GUYS. WHO DID THIS.
letter from the refuge v santa fe always gets me bad ugh. jack's totally given up he's been knocked to the ground enough times to just lie there and accept that the strike cause is over and he's lost his best friend and he'll live and work and die in new york at the rate everything's moving at. and crutchie's like well hey pulitzer's going down! strike could still work! but also lol can u tell everyone to protect one another (speaking as though he might not make it back to tell them himself) :-( :-( :-( hope that only lasts so long for the both of them
newsie nicknames are cute sometimes but also sometimes they are super not. u are so lucky to be buttons. some of us got mush
sprace. you agree.
i think everything in newsies would've been solved like five times faster if race just manned up in the beginning and asked spot to join the strike himself instead of letting jack and them go

Spot Conlon ruling a whole borough before 15.
Spot Conlon taking over the "6th largest city in the entire world" before he could legally drink.
Spot Conlon who was feared by all newsies but was just a child.
game changer season 8 does have occasional faults but it also understands that for every high concept, You Can Only Get The Experience Of Watching This For The First Time Once episode (i.e., count the rice, noise some makes) there should also be more low stakes, We Made Up A Fun Game For Comedians To Play So You Can Have Fun Watching Them episode (donât wake s&p, earwigs). season 7 was a slam dunk in terms of high budget twisty personalized torture chambers of unscripted television but thatâs just not sustainable for the show in the long run and arguably antithetical to game changerâs first principles. fuck, man, sometimes you put a couple improvisers in silly wigs so that you can name the episode after a pun and thatâs like half of the charm. sometimes you just have to let zach reino go whole hog on a fop bit and let that be the show. get back to the basics and leave some room for the insaneo heavy hitters. they canât all be one year later!!!
