when a guy thinks he has something valuable to teach you
Clarification: when a guy younger than you thinks this. Older guys might have snippets of knowledge. Might. Sometimes. Not all of them.
when older guys think they have something valuable to teach you
Clarification: teach you things = like how to change a tire. Like YOUR DAD teaching you how to change a tire. Thatβs feasible. Not about how to be a woman though or how to think or what kind of clothes to buy. Nope.
when you teach your dad stuff about cars
You either learn because you have to in order to survive (like Rey) or you learn because you want to. And in a lot of cases that means from family members. And in the typical household itβs the dad who does the fixing and the mom who does the cooking. I pride myself on being able to do both. So I donβt really understand your apparent hatred of learning anything from a man.
when youβre unconcerned with explanations of antiquated parental roles in typical households because youβre a space orphan and you just finished cooking and fixing stuff in your houseΒ

Happy International Womenβs Day!
They are all so beautiful omg
8 charts that show why life is still harder and more dangerous for women

Women still earn less than men across all sectors and occupations, hold just a fifth of global parliamentary seats and face an estimated 118-year wait for the gender pay gap to finally close.
Those are some of the startling statistics showing how desperately initiatives to improve education, health and quality of life as International Womenβs Day approaches.
Sexual abuse
More than a third of women worldwide have experienced physical or sexual violence at some point in their lives.
The most common form is domestic violence or attacks by current or previous partners, which occur most frequently between a womanβs teenage years and menopause.
Additionally, at least 46 countries have no laws protecting women against domestic violence and many nations that do enforce them poorly.
Child sex abuse
An estimated 120 million girls and women under age 20 have been subjected to forced sexual intercourse or other forced sexual acts β around 10 per cent.
A Unicef report found that the violence was a βglobal realityβ across all countries and social groups that could include harassment, rape or sexual exploitation in prostitution or pornography.
βThe true magnitude of sexual violence is hidden because of its sensitive and illegal nature,β the agency warned.
βMost children and families do not report cases of abuse and exploitation because of stigma, fear, and lack of trust in the authorities.β
Illiteracy
Almost two thirds of illiterate adults are women and the proportion has remained unchanged for two decades.
The vast majority of older women in Northern Africa, sub-Saharan Africa and Southern Asia are illiterate, according to UN statistics.
While βremarkable progressβ in education has been seen in the last 20 years, girls are still underrepresented globally in secondary schools and universities, particularly in developing countries.
Political representation
Worldwide, only around a fifth of parliamentary seats are held by women and there were only 19 female heads of state or government in 2014 β just seven more than in 1995.
The proportion of the worldβs cabinet ministers who were women nearly tripled between 1994 and 2014, yet remains low at 17 per cent, according to the UN.
βThe use by some countries of gender quotas has improved womenβs chances of being elected,β a report noted. βYet, once elected, few women reach the higher echelons of parliamentary hierarchies.β
Management
In the private sector, fewer than 4 per cent of CEOs leading the worlds 500 major corporations are women.
Meanwhile, female representation amongst corporate managers, legislators and senior officials ranges between 21 per cent in Africa and 37 per cent in Latin America and the Caribbean. Β
Women remain severely underrepresented in the highest decision-making positions developed countries and while data from developing regions is scarce, the situation is unlikely to be better.
βThe underrepresentation of women is even more extreme in the private sector,β a UN report said.
βThe glass ceiling appears to be most impenetrable in the largest corporations, which are still essentially male dominated, particularly at the level of CEO.β
Additionally, around 600 million women β 53 per cent of those working globally β are in jobs that are insecure and typically not protected by labour laws.
Wealth
Women make up just 55 of the 500 richest people in the world, according to Forbesβ list of billionaires.
Oxfam research found that just 62 people currently own the same wealth as the poorest half of the worldβs population combined β and just nine of them are women.
On average, women still earn less than men across all sectors and occupations, with women working full-time earning between 70 per cent and 90 per cent of equivalent male salaries, according to the UN.
Gender pay gap
The global gender gap across health, education, economic opportunity and politics has closed by only 4 per cent in the past 10 years, with the economic gap closing by just 3 per cent.
The World Economic Forum believes it will take another 118 years - or until 2133 - until the gulf is finally closed, saying progress has stalled in recent years despite more women entering the workplace.
Nearly a quarter of a billion more women are in the global workforce today than a decade ago but they are only now earning the amount that men did in 2006, data from the WEFβs Global Gender Gap report says.
Nordic countries dominated the top places on its index, while Rwanda (6), Philippines (7) and New Zealand (10) were the only non-European countries in the top 10.
Household power
Around a third of women in developing countries are excluded from decisions on major purchases in their own homes, while around one in 10 married women are not consulted on how their own cash earnings are spent.
When both paid and unpaid work such as household chores and caring for children are taken into account, women work longer hours than men and spend between two and three more hours on unpaid work every day, according to UN figures.
Unpaid care work by women is estimated to be worth $10 trillion ($7 trillion).
Even in the UK, more than two thirds of women feel they do the bulk of housework and 28 per cent believe their partner does not do their fair share, according to an Oxfam survey.
UN Women, the United Nations agency for gender equality and empowerment, is attempting to accelerate progress towards goals set for 2030 with events in more than 40 countries on 8 March.
Ban Ki-moon, the UN Secretary-General, said he has been on a personal campaign to promote women and ensure their democratic representation in parliamentβs across the world.
βWe have shattered so many glass ceilings we created a carpet of shards,β he said. βNow we are sweeping away the assumptions and bias of the past so women can advance across new frontiers.β
Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, UN Womenβs executive director, urged women across the world to attempt to fight violence and discrimination.
βEach one of us is neededβin our countries, communities, organisations, governments and in the United Nationsβto ensure decisive, visible and measurable actions are taken.β

For the next time you get asked, βwhy do we need feminism in the 21st century?βΒ
These numbers are from the 2015/2016 report - this ainβt ancient history. When the new report gets posted Iβll share it.

What McElroy Family Product to Enjoy:
Do you like?
Video Games:
Monster Factory-Griffin and Justin explore the capabilities of character creators. RememberΒ βjust like bartβ? Thatβs from this.
Car Boys-Griffin and Nick find out that BeamNG.drive is much more that it appears on the surface. What was originally going to be a single video now has 30 because more and more things keep showing up. I hope you like clair de lune.Β
Touch the Skyrim-Griffin and Nick try to make Skyrim more enjoyable by braking it with mods. The first iteration broke in four episodes. Mod discovered
Peacecraft- Griffin is attempting to go through World of Warcraft without killing anything. The fan interaction is making this turn out really fun.Β
Polygonβs YouTube channel has too many more individual videos to list. The nuzlocke and law abiding citizen and all of the overviews. Iβm still finding oneβs I havenβt watched.
Cool Games IncΒ (podcast)-Griffin and Nick design games using submissions from twitter and Reddit. From it come such favorites as βTim McGrawβs What if? Trucks: Fatesβ and β50 First Statesβ. Β Hereβs a playlist of animated clips.
D&D:
The Adventure ZoneΒ (podcast)-Griffin DMs for his brothers, Justin (Taako/elf wizard) and Travis (Magnus/human fighter), and their dad Clint (Merle/dwarf cleric). D&D played fast and loose. With a surprising depth to the story and original music coming in during the 3rd arc, props to Griffin for making this my favorite thing. Start at episode one, the first arc is a little slow, but it get much, much better.
Goofs on Goofs:
My Brother, My Brother, and Me (MBMBaM) podcast-Griffin, Justin and Travis giveΒ βadviceβ to questions from fans and Yahoo Answers. There is no chronology, so just jump in wherever (344 episodes seems a little daunting). Β The earliest episodes are a little less βopen-mindedβ so keep that in mind. The boys have learned a lot since then. YouTube is full of clips and you can spend all day going from one to the next.
MBMBaM Seeso- the podcast recently got a TV interpretation. Explore Huntington while helping people relate to teens, get a job, start a secret society, and a lot more. Seeso requires a membership (and itβs US only), but you can get a free week trial. There is one episode available on YouTube though!
Bringing the wives in:
Sawbones (podcast)-Justin and Sydnee take aΒ βmarital tour of misguided medicine.β Itβs about medical history from one doctor and one not a doctor.
Rose Buddies (podcast)-Griffin and Rachelβs Bachelor fancast. You donβt have to watch the bachelor to enjoy it, at most you might have to google what the people look like. Start at the beginning of any season (#52 starts the current season).
Shmanners (podcast)- Travis and Teresa teach you about etiquette. I havenβt gotten to this one but itβs on my list
How do I even describe these?:
Griffinβs Amiibo Corner- a simple amiibo review series, thatβs it, nothing weird about this.
Things I Bought at Sheetz-a food review quiz show where Justin buys something from Sheetz and Dwight has to guess if he likes it. Probably my favorite series for hidden depth.
Carrey On- Travisβs new series where he is going to watch and review every Jim Carrey movie chronologically.
Til Death do Us Blart (podcast)- the boys are joined by the boys from βThe Worst Idea of All Timeβ to do an annual review of Paul Blart Mall Cop 2. Every Year. For all time.Β
There are even more that this that I havenβt gotten to yet. mcelroyshows.comΒ has links to all of these, along with other social media links (the Facebook groups are full of great people). All of the podcasts can be found on ITunes or your favorite podcast app. These good, good boys try their best, and I think they succeeded to make a whole bunch of wholesome content to enjoy.Β
The McElroys are honest-to-god proof that you donβt have to be hurtfully offensive to be incredibly funny. From what Iβve seen they genuinely take peopleβs concerns to heart and do their best not to perpetuate harmful ideas.
Like, their humor does often get into topics like race, gender, sexuality, religion, but as a queer, mixed race woman, I personally have never once felt like they were laughing at me, only with me. I remember commenting to a friend once that they make gay jokes the way gay people make gay jokes, and I love it.
That was so incredible to me the first time I realized it. I know thatβs just the minimum standard of decency, and Iβm not exactly patting them on the back for it? But
I just wanted to say this because theyβve brought me so many laughs and I appreciate them so much for the effort they make to be inclusive.
