A spooky boy.
Pattern referenced from WolfDreamer’s boo pattern, but I had a lot of issues with it (weird, because her patterns are usually very on point) so this ended up being mostly mine.
Gift for @king-deebious because he told me to make something spOooOooKy

look…………….. write as much shitty fic as you want. nobody can stop you. you’re learning constantly and it’s better to write hackneyed implausible ridiculousness than it is to not write at all out of fear of fucking up. you’re good
There was an experiment a professor did. I think it was pottery students. He did an experiment of “quality” vs “quantity”. One half of the class he told; you have to make as many pots as possible. Good pots, bad pots, shitty pots, whatever. The more pots you make, the higher your grade.
The other half of the class were told, “you can make only one pot”. But that pot had to be perfect. The quality had to be high; the highest quality pot would get the best mark.
But when it came to the grading, they noticed something weird.
All the best quality pots were in the ‘quantity’ group.
The guys who were literally churning out pots, trying to make as many as possible, not concentrating on the quality. But every pot they made, made them better at making pots. By the end of the month (I think it was a month) - they had some pretty awesome pots coming out, because they enjoying finding all the ways and all the things they could do to make all their pots. Where as the ‘quality’ guys had spent their time reading up on pots, and technique, and researching and planning; which was all great but they’d had no further practice at actually making pots.
The best way to get really good at something, the only way to be really good at something, is to make lots of shitty attempts at that thing several of which will fail. If all you create are perfect things then you won’t improve, because how can you improve on perfect?
tl:dr MAKE YOUR SHITTY POTS.
AMEN this goes for anything too!!! drawing, painting, sewing, knitting you name it. Its so much better to just do the thing your working on, shitty or not it takes less of a toll on you to just finish a thing than to worry about fucking it up first time.
EVERYBODY MAKE YOUR POTS!
Knit all the things. Crochet all the things. Cross stitch all the things. Embroider all the things.
Sew as many skirts with pockets as you can because eventually you’ll have so many skirts with pockets you’ll have to start selling them because you love making the.
Some of the most important advice you will ever read, whether you’re a visual artist, a crafter, a writer, a programmer, a teacher, a cook...
No matter what you make, make.
To other amigurumi-ists:
What do you put inside your dolls to make them poseable and where do you buy it??
I used a thick gaged copper wire for one of my projects and it worked really well. You can get it online somewhere. My mom gave me some so I don’t know specifically where, but I would try Etsy, Ebay, or some jewelry websites to see where you can get it the cheapest.
I use normal thin wire I can get at the hardware store. I pick up a spool of it and it lasts me a long while. As long as it’s thin enough to pose but thick enough to hold it up any wire will do.
The above two are correct, and I will add: For large projects like Kohaku:
For the Body and Legs, I use this kind of copper wire:
For Thin things like whiskers and horns, I use picture frame Wire:
Finally, for those things in between, like Baby Smaug’s wings,
I use Electrical Wire:
You will also definitely need some electrical tape (for any sharp ends), wire cutters, and some pliers.
Hope this helps! Happy crafting!
This is so helpful!
Some notes about this:
-wire comes in gauges and the higher the gauge number the smaller the wire (so 14 gauge is larger than 20 gauge). It is all standardized so if you buy some craft wire to test it out and find its the right size you can but the same size at the hardware store in bulk
- if you buy electrical wire it is covered in plastic/rubber. This will add to the thickness. Some people like to leave this coating on however you can also strip this coating off to have just the wire. This can allow you to get two sizes of wire with only one purchase.
-don’t buy the wire cutter, pliers (go for needle nose ones) or tape at craft stores they are all over priced and tend to not be strong enough. get these tools at the hardware store
The last point I will add is that adding some weight to the feet/base in the form of the plastic filling can really help make the project stand up as well as be posed.
Up until this point, I’ve avoided using wire in my work because I’m worried about it poking people. How do you guys deal with the ends? I’d love to try some possible plushies!
@mostlyharmlessdesigns Normally you would fold the end of the wire over to make a small loop. Then twist so the wire wraps around its self. Last you tape the twist with electrical tape. This means the tip of the wire (say for the hand) is actually a loop and not pointy or pokey. The end of the wire is more on the limb and all twisted so that it won’t push out when you bend the area. The tape just helps to make sure it doesn’t poke out. I believe that a wire would still not be advisable as part of a toy for young children. I am posting on my mobile right now but if you would like pictures of the above let me know and I will post some once I am on a desktop.
Reblogging this again for @reckless-stitches comments - yup, this is exactly what I do! If you’re using super thick wire but for a small point, you can also just wrap the end carefully multiple times with electrical tape. The bend is better, but not always possible for the size of the plush, and the electrical tape will prevent any painful poking!
Spooky!
A trio of amigurumi pumpkins, for my mother’s birthday.
Pattern from the wonderful http://www.planetjune.com/blog/free-crochet-patterns/pumpkin/ . Modified for the medium: 17 sets of rows at 8/8/8 and 5/14/5, and the large just doubled the pattern.

A seasonal self rebagel!
Hey Yarnmonger :) You made some awesome Final Fantasy pillow for me a while ago, which I am immensely happy with (and very protective of!). I'm wondering if you're able to take on any other commissions? If not, no worries... Just thought I would ask as I have an idea rattling around. Anyway, hope all is well. Take care! - Chris
Hi Chris! It would depend on what you want - I have a job now, but if it’s something I have a pattern for or know how to do, we may be able to arrange something!Drop me a line at [email protected] glad you still love your pillows! They were some of my faves!
Do you have any tips for changing yarn colors in a project, especially mid row? I have such a hard time with it and they never look good. Thanks so much, love the blog.
Hi! While this is for Tunisian crochet, it also works for most other kinds of crochet and knitting! This is the tutorial I learned with!

Commissions
In what I believe might be world first for a Buchinyan amigurumi and a world first for a Cupistol plush (!!! :D), here are two Yo-Kai from the Level-5 Nintendo 3DS game Yo-kai Watch.
They were a commission, and took quite a long time to figure out, but I think they turned out spectacular! The commissioner specifically did not want the gun-hand on Cupistol, by the way!
Questions, comments, and commission queries are always welcome in my inbox!
(For those curious, these two are made primarily of yarn, felt, and fiberfill stuffing. They also use some wire for structure, as well as embroidery thread for details. They were primarily crocheted with a size f crochet hook and 4mm knitting needles. Alas, I do not have a pattern: I winged it!)
Haku/Kohaku, from Miazaki’s Spirited Away.
I love him so much. It’s been a while since I made an Ami for myself. I think he turned out absolutely gorgeous; I’m really proud of this.
ALL MY LOVE TO APHID777 for her KILLER PATTERN FOR THIS GUY.
My daughter and and I are great Miazaki fans! I LOVE your Ami!
Thank you so much! You totally made my day!
This makes me so happy
There’s a very good, clear message here that is surprisingly hard to articulate. You go, dragon. You go.
Yet another reason why I adore Mr. Elliot at will5nevercome.
Turns out Silv’s mom is a crafter too, and upon finding out about my yarn addiction, took me out to this adorable yarn shop in Austin.
THEN SHE BOUGHT ME THE RED SKEIN <3
Bonus, these were both dyed in Texas! Houston, not Austin, but still neat!
