something that really takes me out is the amount of hate the argentine soccer team gets. it’s like people can’t fathom a team that actually plays well. also with the accusations of calling the team racist because of the lack of poc, when it’s literally mainly white people in argentina 😭😭 like who in their right mind is coming over to us? to be more broke? the only immigrants i can think of off the top of my head that come to argentina are russians and venezuelans, and that’s because venezuela’s gone to shit. not entirely sure about the russians, but they’re there. we’re too far down south for native american tribes, and though there were some, again, mainly white people descending from spaniards and italians.
also the talk of bribing fifa into letting them win. first off, with what money my guy. we’re broke (this is a joke. the economic crisis in argentina is horrible and the country in on itself is broke because of inflation. thats why its funny in my family at least). and also, if we were doing that, argentina would’ve won as a whole.
what people don’t understand is the importance soccer has in our culture, in our day to day lives. the amount of love and time and energy we pour into this is insane. but the love we have for it is real. this is something we care about from the very bottom of our hearts. soccer isn’t only argentina’s, but we make it our own in a way that defies words. whenever we chant, we chant because of how grateful we our for our team. we chant because we’re proud to be argentine. we’re proud of the white blue and yellow flag that flies in every school. we’re proud of the songs we make for games, we’re proud of the friends we make through them. we’re proud.
and we may not have won, but that’s okay. we didn’t need to. being able to be a part of this beautiful thing is winning for me. being able to sing louder than any spaniard at the end of the finals even though they won is enough.
el que no festeja era un tarado que solo buscaba ganar.
gracias selección. me diste el privilegio de amar ser argentina.
