He's been looking high and low for her ever since he got out of the medical tent. There's still one or two members of the Fourth running after him, but they slow to a stop as he outpaces them. Clutching his weapon like his life depends on it, he yells out to the rooftops. "YACHIRU! COME OUT, YACHIRU! WHERE'D YOU GO?!"
It hurts to see him look so panicked. It hurts to watch him looking for her, and knowing she can't yell down to him. Let him know she's alright, that she's right beside him if he'll just listen to her. This is a lesson for both of them. One that's harder than she thought it was going to be. Wrapping her arms around her knees as she brings them up to her chest, Yachiru talks to him even though she knows he can't hear her from so far away.
"C'mon Ken-chan. I know you can hear me. You just gotta listen, alright? And once you do, I'll be right there on your shoulder, just like always!" She watches the way he clings to his sword, a little smile lifting one side of her lips. "Just hear me."
"hm..."
His uncovered eye moves through the various shades. There's so much of them, why do they make so many? Isn't it like normal paint, where you can mix a couple of the colors together and make something new? He's seen Yachiru do something like that with her finger painting. So why are these paints different? It makes him a little irritated that not all the paints work the same, but then again, there's a lot of things that aren't consistent. He's just had to get used to them.
The designs suggested by Yachiru make him smile. A little pink heart would be perfect.
"yeah, an' maybe a little set o' crossbones? a skull might be tricky since the fingernail ain't that big. whatever you think would look best on me, though. yer good at figurin' that out."
The girl's mouth falls open into a tiny o as she looks up at him. "That's such a good idea." She isn't sure if she's talking more to him or to herself. Nodding at the thought of a skull and crossbones, she pulls out her colors. Black, pink and white sit before her, along with the special brushes she absolutely insisted she got along with the paints. She wasn't sure where to start. And she certainly didn't want to mess up, since he was letting her do it! "Ok, black first." Yachiru nodded, reaching for the small black bottle, opening it and applying a coat of color to his nails. "Now, they dry!"
Placing the lid back on the black polish, she places it aside before picking up the pink. Yachiru uses the brush to carefully add a little heart to both of his pinkie nails, nodding to herself when they end up coming out just like she wanted them. "What do you think so far, Ken-chan?" She's practically bursting with excitement at the new art she can imagine them doing together.
Now for the skull and crossbones, she purses her lips before an idea hits her. "OH!" Reaching up, she gently pulls out her hairpin, placing it on on his knee as a reference. Picking up the smallest brush she can find, she opens the white polish and begins copying the image onto both of his thumbnails. Her tongue pokes through her lips, eyes narrowed in concentration until she's absolutely certain the drawing is perfect.
Leaning back, she holds his own hand up to his eyes. "Well? Do you think it looks ok?"

8. the hug that comes after a bad dream
No one sees her like this. No one except Ken-Chan. And even then, she liked to giggle and tell him she was just kidding. It had just been a silly little nightmare, nothing at all to worry about!
But this was different. He wasn't here. Ken-Chan had a dumb old captain's meeting to go to. One she wasn't allowed to come to. Sometimes she did anyway. She had gotten pretty good at hiding to make sure none of the other captains saw. But this meeting was more serious. It made her have a feeling of worry in her chest. Tiny feet padded along the floors of the eleventh as she looked for someone.
"Yun-Yun?" She called out, bottom lip wobbling as she looked around before finally spotting him in one of the training rooms. "I took a nap and had a bad dream and Ken-Chan had to go to a captain's meeting and I was alone and. Would it be ok if I just..." Yachiru reached out, wrapping her arms around his middle and hugging herself to his side. "Just for a minute, ok? I promise."

"Well I know we won't ever decide to stop, Ken-Chan, don't be silly!" Her laughter is a twinkling little sound as she pokes at his cheek.
"But...what if something happens?"
Her laughter dies down a little as she glances over at him from her place atop his shoulder. It was a thought she had been having the last few days, one she wondered if he had as well. "I had to go away before, you remember?" It was right after they lost her. "I don't want to go away again. But if I ever have to, I want you to keep having fun slashing up the baddies, ok? If you're happy, then I'm happy too!"

she balled her hands together as well, gasping when learning ikkaku couldn't say no to her. ' wait, he can't say NO TO YOU? can you.. ask kenpachi if i could get that as well, please? but besides that, painting his head pink would be PERFECT! ' a-yeong clapped her hands together. ' and put hearts on his cheek and maybe a bow on his head, too? ' she chuckled with yachiru.
"I'm so happy you're here!"
Yachiru is nearly squealing at all the ideas being tossed around, nodding her head so excitedly she was sure she must look just a little bit like a little tornado about to cause all kinds of trouble. "And glitter! Don't forget the glitter! Can you imagine how shiny his head will be if we can find pretty pink glitter?!"

"You're absolutely right. I don't know what I was thinking! It wouldn't be the same without you guys!" She considers jumping up onto his shoulder. But in the world of the living, in their gigai, that might look a little bit strange. So instead, she slips her hand into his before pointing to the snack counter, her eyes going wide with excitement at the selection of sweets just waiting for them to pick what they wanted. "Let's gooo!"

Tiny hands ball into fists as she bounces back and forth from one foot to the other. "Best. Idea. Ever! Let's do it! He can't say no to us!" She lets out a little giggle. "I mean, honestly, he isn't allowed. Ken-Chan said so." Ideas are running through her head now. Poor Baldy.
"What if we painted his head pink!"
"I wonder how many complaints we're gonna get from the cinema after this movie night business..."
"Don't worry about a thing, Yun-Yun! I've got it all under control!"
And by that, of course, she means she'll make Baldy go take care of anything that happens.

He takes in her colored fingernails, the glossy paint applied to it in pretty patterns. A hum of wonder rises from him as he looks her over, first looking at the bag, then back at her smile. She brought all of that back from the living world just for him? Well, obviously he's gotta try it out for himself, she thinks it'd look good on him.
"alright, if you wanna show me how to do it, i'll try. what colors do you think would look good with me?"
Her eyes nearly well up tears. Not for any sad reasons, quite the opposite! Because she's reminded once again that Ken-Chan is the best best friend anyone could ever hope for. If she asked anyone else to paint their nails, she knew they wouldn't be so sure. But not him! He looked excited! Happy that she was sharing a new, exciting thing from the world of the living with him.
"Ohhh! Ok hmm let me see." Yachiru started pulling the little glass bottles out of her bag, placing them in groups by color. Maybe she had gone a bit overboard, but all the colors were so beautiful! She couldn't have picked just a few.
"I think black would look really cool on you! But I want to do something special!" The girl decided to go easy on him and give him a not so bright color since he was agreeing to let her do it. "I want to paint them black, and then on one of them I want to add a little pink heart! And then it'll be like I'm on there too!"
