happy pride to my favorite gif in the world
I think the marketing failure around Jennifer's Body is an enormous part of what makes it such a brilliant master class film. You market this film with these male gazey shots of the current Hollywood sex symbol, you make it seem like a pseudo lesbian soft core porno, you then bring all these men who just want to goon to Megan Fox into the theatre. You sit them down. They're ready to watch the extended cut of her scene in bad boys. And instead you subject them to what rape feels like for women. You force these misogynistic straight men who came to the theater to get their rocks off to watch Megan Fox get shoved into the back of a van, taken to a remote location, and ritualistically sacrificed in a way where any idiot can tell it's a metaphor for sexual assault but which no one would find sexy, and then you make them watch her go to her best friend's house and throw up black bile all over the place. You make her gross and unsexy and in pain. And then you make it gay for real in a way that straight men have a hard time comprehending let alone fetishizing.
If you're a capitalist it's a terrible marketing decision but if you're a feminist and a troll it's the most brilliant move anyone has ever made.
Analysis - TSHD is about queer selfishness
So after watching those twelve episodes, I can confidently say the main theme of The Summer Hikaru Died is the selfishness inherent to being queer.
-Obviously "fake" Hikaru is a representation of queerness. His love isn't friendship and it isn't romantic in a traditional heterosexual sense : it's queer love. -Yoshiki feels like he himself is a monster because he's gay, and believes the selfless thing would be to hide his true identity (symbolically, let Hikaru go). -But he can't do it, because it will literally kill him. I truly believe OG Hikaru made that wish "I don't want Yoshiki to be lonely" because he was aware of how close to killing himself Yoshiki is. That boy is DEPRESSED. -I think in that moment "Hikaru" realizes that. He tells Yoshiki "you're even more of a kid than I am." He's suddenly made aware that Yoshiki isn't this morally superior being who just wants to be helpful and keep everyone alive. Yoshiki needs him, and he's ready to cling to him even if it kills people. "Hikaru" can't make everything right by going back to the mountain knowing that.
-The salamander represents, symbolically, selflessness. It's "being someone else for the comfort of everyone around you." Hikaru reminds him, "you gotta take that home, or else Kaoru's gonna cry". Kaoru is told to become a future mother a bit earlier, she symbolizes having a heteronormative lifestyle. Yoshiki refuses. He's starting to lean into his selfishness.
-It's the theme of their relationship because most of it is just "Hikaru" indulging Yoshiki. He's also helping him become more "selfish" because "Hikaru" is very true to himself. He's emotional, full of desires etc. Yoshiki is starting to mirror that.
-"Hikaru"'s "muderous impulses" symbolize how people see queerness : as equivalent to murder. In order to accept his own identity, Yoshiki knows he'll have to face rejection and hatred. "Hikaru" is his safe place, because they're the same (monsters).
With that in mind, the anime throws in your face how bad it feels to be a gay teenager. Because being yourself is not just wrong, it's selfish. It "makes Kaoru cry". It hurts your family, your community, the world, God. It's self hatred so deep it doesn't require direct bullying to push you to suicide. This anime isn't about Yoshiki saving "Hikaru", it's about "Hikaru" saving Yoshiki, who is a danger to himself.
-The mark on his arm isn't a symbol of Yoshiki becoming gayer (he already is). It's a symbol of him loosing "restraint", of becoming less and less preoccupied with social norms so he can keep "Hikaru". It's him loosing his humanity symbolically but in reality he is loosing the "social mask" he is wearing.
-"Hikaru" 's true form is a representation of when that social mask is slipping. Because "Hikaru" the being inside the corpse, is 100% true, unacceptable, disgusting, queerness.
How each character would behave getting a tattoo (in honor of me getting my first ever tattoo)
HOUSE Something weirdly painful like on his ribs, probably a joker card or some grim Latin phrase nobody asked for. Claims it's "ironic." It's not. He secretly loves it. Probably got it drunk and alone in a questionable New Orleans shop. Would NOT sit still. Complains the whole time, usually about his leg.
WILSON He keeps SAYING he wants one but never actually does it because he's concerned about professionalism and also, you know, infections. If he ever did, it'd take some sort of cancer research fundraiser for him to get a minimalist cancer awareness ribbon at most, that he hides like it's a nipple piercing. But everyone finds out immediately.
CUDDY Sleeve? Nah. Something classy somewhere scandalously placed that only maybe two people ever see. Tiny, black, minimalist. Like a small star on her ribs or the Hebrew word for "strength" on her navel. She pretends it's spontaneous but researched for three months and only went to a top Manhattan tattooist who charges the GDP of Estonia.
FOREMAN He already has ink, and probably acts like it's just a thing he got when he was "a dumb kid," but we both know that thing means something important - probably a tribute to someone, maybe his brother or a moment that marked him growing up. On the show it's described as an oriental tattoo of mysterious origin, so.
CHASE Oh baby boy definitely has one from med school; a small Christian cross between his shoulder blades in that deeply Catholic, lowkey rebellious Catholic-boy way (like a rebellious sort of choir boy, even). If he got another, it would be an impulsive emotional moment, like a line from Psalms after a bad case. Looks great shirtless though (House would mention this 47 times). Also he'd definitely piss himself the moment the needle touches his skin, and would then tell everyone he handled it like a champ.
CAMERON She would get something delicate and meaningful, like a flower for her dead husband or a little bird. Then quietly cry when it's done because "he would've liked this".
TAUB He tries to be edgy and fails immediately. Probably gets a dragon or something hyper-masculine and instantly regrets it. His wife hates it. Ruby says it's hot, so he pretends he doesn't regret it.
THIRTEEN Oh she DEFINITELY has something already. A snake, a moon, a tarot card, something femme-fatale. Maybe on her hip, maybe on her ribs, maybe both. Looks ethereal. Doesn't tell anyone until House catches a glimpse accidentally and makes a wildly inappropriate comment.
KUTNER He's the one who actually walks in laughing and gets something fun like a little UFO or a Lord of the Rings reference just because, and ends up chatting with and befriending the artist. Probably gets matching ones with someone and never explains it. I can see him filling an entire sleeve with the one ring, the eye of Sauron, the Harry Potter Deathly Hallows sign, "It's Levi-OH-sa, not Levio-SAW", and the like.
MASTERS Someone bets her to get one. She does her research, writes a 10 page thesis on ink safety, nearly faints twice, and then chickens out once the stencil is placed, never going through with it.
PARK She looks cute and quiet but would get something absolutely metal like a giant detailed tiger on her thigh or some heavy metal band logo inbetween her shoulder blades. House would be both impressed and uncomfortable.
ADAMS A delicate little constellation. Googled the meaning, made a Pinterest board, cried.

ep 8x04
park and adams do not get enough credit for handling house stealing their food (they have been on his team for two seconds) - he grabs adams's burger as she leaves and she murmurs "i have hepatitis c" as she goes; then he reaches for park's (also on her way to do medical stuff) and she says "she got it from me"
and house gets a despairing look which is partly, they've bested me, and partly, SHIT THEY'RE GETTING ALONG.
the s8 house md team are basically just the scooby doo characters. velma is park, daphne is adams, fred is taub, shaggy is chase, and house is of course scooby doo.
chark as lesbians ????? please???? please???
Keeping this one in its raw sketchbook phase because its so cute and I didn't wanna ruin it!! Also I allowed Transfem Chase to have her divorce pixie cut <3333
Some things I like about House characters
I saw @all-pacas do this, and I thought it looked fun and I wanted to try making a longer House post, so here we go. This isn't necessarily "favorite" and more "things I like", but they're still things that stand out.
HOUSE: I could make this post miles long just talking about things I enjoy about House as a character, but one thing I really enjoy is how he is with children. He doesn’t baby them, he talks to them like they’re people. He talks to them like they’re equals, which admittedly I don’t think is always appropriate, but it’s something different than what children normally get. I also think he’s at his most natural talking to children, and children are receptive to the way he talks to them. It’s like he knows he doesn’t even have to put up a front of maybe, possibly, communicating in a normal way. He can just talk to them. A lot of the time when they show one of the doctors talking to a kid about what is happening, they dumb it down or just look stupid, and House doesn’t do that. The patient in Lines in the Sand, and how he was able to communicate with him and figure out what was going on when nobody else could. The daughter of the patient in It’s a Wonderful Lie, who he talks to like any adult. The baby the mom wasn’t vaccinating, playing with the toy seemed natural for him. The “you’re a goof!”/”takes one to know one, loser!” kid. And on and on. House is not perfect with children, but he does interact with them like they’re people, which I think helps put them at ease.
WILSON: Wilson is another character I could make a mile-long post about all the things that I like about him. One thing in particular that I have always found interesting is the way he holds on to his failures and “failures” as a doctor. The way that he gets attached to every single patient. This is his strength as a doctor, it allows him to see things other doctors might have missed. For example in Wilson, he recognizes cancer based on depression diagnosed from the patient not talking about his grandkids. Other doctors, even House, would have missed that. But it’s also his weakness as a doctor. “Wilson cares to his own detriment” is not exactly a novel observation given House repeatedly calls him out for it, but it is amazing the extent to which it is true. He holds on to every patient’s sadness and takes it personally. He gives up part of his liver to someone who doesn’t even know his name because he feels guilty. I think this ultimately led to his reaction to his own cancer and the end of Season 8. Because he holds on so strongly to every patient, I think he has a lot of trauma and emotional issues surrounding hospitals and cancer that maybe even most oncologists don’t have. This ultimately led to him being unable to accept the treatment he would’ve recommended to anyone else, and also explains his issues with being the one in the hospital bed. I just love that aspect so much.
CUDDY: I like how Cuddy balances being very good at her job and taking it seriously and also wanting to be a mother. She works incredibly hard to keep the hospital running and to get it what she thinks it deserves (5 to 9). I like that she was never made to choose between parenthood and her career. I like how in 5 to 9 we see all she does for the hospital and how she’s constantly pulled in a million directions, but she somehow manages all of that AND makes sure her kid is okay. Incredible.
FOREMAN: Foreman, for all he tries to seem otherwise, or at least looks otherwise, is such a carer. Fake IDGAFer, I caught your ass caring, etc etc. Being with the patient in Histories as she died. Sitting with the patient he accidentally killed in season 2. Letting Taub move in with him temporarily right after he divorced Rachel. Switching Thirteen’s placebo for the real drug, despite it being misguided and not working out for him. Going to see his mother, even though he didn’t really want to. Letting his brother move in with him to give him another chance. Getting House’s stuff out of storage to get him his office back after he gets out of prison. Getting season tickets to spend time with House after Wilson dies, to show him other people still care about him. Going with Wilson to find House when he disappears during Everybody Dies. I could go on. Foreman clearly cares so much. Although the transition to making him Dean of Medicine is a weird one, I think he would develop into being a very good Dean, because ultimately, he is balanced and fair and is A Carer.
CAMERON: I love Cameron’s little one-liners/funny comments. Stuff like “Because I’m doing her, and it’s totally hot” and other stuff to mess with House. She can keep up with House’s banter and has caught him off guard with a comment at least once. It doesn’t just apply to House, though, she also does it with other people. An example that comes to mind is her Sex Is Dangerous monologue to Chase. Cameron isn’t afraid to just Say Things and I really like that about her, she’s so funny.
CHASE: I like how Chase still cares about his family, especially his father, even though he doesn’t seem to particularly like him much. I know there’s lots of reasons to dislike the “loving your family no matter what”/”forgive your family” trope and I agree, but it’s still cool how Chase shows that you can love someone without necessarily liking everything they do or have done. Chase understands himself surprisingly well, honestly, which I think is awesome.
THIRTEEN: I think Thirteen is an incredibly funny character and that a lot of her development throughout the show, for example, facing her Huntington’s diagnosis, is very interesting. However, one thing that stands out, or at least that I specifically enjoy, is that she has a lot of street smarts. She seems to have a lot of understanding of addicts, as seen in Games. She also clearly knows her way around bars/clubs. And then there’s the scene with Taub and buying the cocaine. It just shows a lot and that there’s a lot we don’t know about her.
TAUB: One thing I think is underdiscussed about Taub because it’s overshadowed by his cheating is his depression. It comes up in bits and pieces, like when he talks to Kutner, and to be fair I think his cheating does have something to do with it. But there’s just something about how.. It seems like Taub is depressed and unhappy with his life, even when he seems to be enjoying diagnostics. It’s implied that at one point he did attempt or seriously considered attempting suicide. I think he’s better now… but he still seems to be depressed. He just doesn’t seem happy. It’s an underappreciated and underdiscussed aspect of his character that I find really interesting.
KUTNER: Kutner is silly, he’s here for a good time, but he isn’t completely unserious or clueless about what is going on. I like that he can balance both having a good time and also taking his job seriously. It’s a nice balance to see in a character who is clearly supposed to be the silly one. He is one who has a lot of epiphanies about patients and he is willing to challenge House when he thinks House is wrong. There’s just something so nice about a character who is silly and funny but is also incredibly good at their job and can be serious when the situation requires it.
AMBER: Amber actually cares a lot, despite trying to look like she doesn’t and that she’s solely just competitive. She knows what she wants and how to get it, but I think she does it more because she knows that’s the only way to get where she’s trying to go. House identifies that in her, as we know from when he responds to Cuddy saying “hire the one who cares about people” and House says “they both do” (Amber and Thirteen). Wilson must know this too, but anyway, I think it’s so interesting. She has her issues with not being good enough and I think that’s why she overworks herself. But she’s clearly a doctor because she actually cares about patients, and I think that’s a really cool aspect of her character that goes underappreciated.
MASTERS: She’s confident. Even when she’s in a situation where she doesn’t think people like her, like when she first joins the team, she still continues to do her thing and to assert herself when she thinks she’s right. She’s not afraid to stick to her ethical principles, even when everyone else wants her to stop. She does have some awkwardness/timidness because she is still a med student/recent med school graduate, but doesn’t sacrifice anything even in that situation. They should bottle Masters’ confidence and sell it, quite frankly.
ADAMS: After my first watch, I didn’t like her, more because I didn’t know anything about her than that I actually didn’t like her, but after two more watches she’s grown on me and I think there’s a lot of potential with her. I like that she is always trying to help people who are “less fortunate”. She genuinely does care about prisoners, she volunteers at a free clinic… I think she falls short of her own personal ideal of what a perfect self-sacrificing doctor is, but she always does her best to help people and I think she sees everyone as people.
PARK: Okay, maybe not “favorite” because I don’t really like this aspect of her, but I think it’s so funny that she has republican/conservative stances on things. It’s not really what you’d expect from her and it’s the opposite of what I know about her actor. She’s so against receiving charity that she won’t even take a gift of coffee from a coworker. She thinks it’s lame to blow the whistle on bad military actions. She believes in working yourself up from nothing. Nobody does it like her (nor should they).
Please feel free to add on or discuss anything I said
how much house would hate all the team members if put in charge of diagnostics, a completely accurate ranking, because let's be real, he wouldn't be a fan of any* of them:
CAMERON MD: look. look. house likes cameron. he usually listens to her when she makes a moral argument, even if he finds it annoying; he often seeks out her perspective on matters. he would never, ever, ever let her be in charge of diagnostics.
cameron would be a good boss, although probably prone to hiring based on her desire to mentor or help more than actual ability. she loves the mystery and puzzle and would happily take house-ish cases... but sadly, she's not a terribly good diagnostician, and is the only one never to solve a case. that isn't to say she's stupid, but between this and her blanket desire to help anyone and everyone, diagnostics becomes dr. cameron's free clinic within a week.
malpractice: 5/10 (she's all about lying and manipulating For Your Own Good) case difficulty: 1/10 solve rate: 100% (most cases), 20% (mysteries) Team Spirit: 9/10 house's unhappiness: 10/10

Hiii!! First post on tumblr, hope y’all like my dumb house drawing!!!
(Ignore how bad the quality is)
I saw a few other blogs doing this so I thought I'd share my input on what I think would happen in the House MD universe in 2024:
the constant jokes abt house and wilson's relationship turns into the fellows jokingly writing fanfic abt their boss and his boy best friend. somewhere along the way they all get very serious abt the quality of it and it turns into a Whole Thing, a 150k+ novel that they vow to take to their graves.
house discovers the fic by accident and sends it to wilson. wilson discovers things abt himself and then he and house discover each other shortly thereafter.
house purposefully posts the fic online and credits the fellows by their entire full names so it embarrasses them more than house and wilson. It's never spoken abt again but it gets way more online attention than any of them expected.
wilson doesn't get how the Cloud works and accidentally uploads his and house's nudes to the google nest hub on his desk. He doesn't notice it until one of his sweet little old lady cancer patients points it out to him during their appointment. He throws the google nest hub into his trash can until he can figure out how to get the naked pictures off of it.
house has an alexa and abuses the hell out of it. sometimes ppl hear him screaming at someone in his office, only to walk in and find a robotic voice replying with "sorry, I didn't get that" and house throws it off the balcony.
wilson gets addicted to online shopping. house has to stage an intervention bc they do not have enough room in their closet for another pair of prada loafers and their kitchen is full of shitty gadgets that wilson bought off temu or something.
some right wing social media influencer comes in with a mysterious illness and ends up getting castrated as part of the solution. 13 personally does the procedure herself and house watches like a proud dad.
a patient reveals chase's grindr by shoving his phone at him and asking "is this you?" abt the headless profile with the ripped abs that says Dr. Feel Good, 0 feet away, in front of the rest of the team.
foreman finds the team doing tiktok dances bc house told them to learn it in order to understand their 15 yr old patient better.
chase medically murders mitch mcconnel and the entire hospital celebrates ding dong the witch is dead style.
there's a whole episode where house faces his transphobia bc of a trans patient that he connects with. the patient tells him to fuck off and go face his own problems instead of pretending to make it right by being nice to one trans person. And house does, even if he's not perfect, he really tries to do better.
13 gets her medical marijuana card and accidentally becomes the team's plug. her main customer is wilson who still supplies it to certain terminal patients. She hears "hey, can I hit your pen?" at least four times a day.
foreman buys a tesla and it blows up in the parking lot. they spend the entire episode trying to figure out who tried to kill foreman, but it turns out that teslas just do that sometimes.
there's an episode where house finds out that netflix is removing his favorite obscure tv show that ran for 2 seasons in 2002 and wilson recruits the team to hunt down a dvd copy of it without house finding out. they somehow manage to find one and spend a ridiculous amount of money on it, only to open the dvd case and find a copy of the porno wilson starred in that one time instead of the dvd of the show. park saves the day at the last minute by finding a copy of it in a box of dvds in her parents house.
