Chapter 4 - New Beginnings (Dark and Light Series)
Ship: Bruce Wayne x Clark Kent, Superman x Batman Word Count: 624
Clark learned very quickly that Bruce is a very light sleeper. Maybe it had to do with his whole persona, but any little movement would jump him awake. On top of that he is also an early bird — Clark is not.
"Good morning" Bruce said while walking around the room with a cup of dark coffee.
"Good morning, Bruce" Clark spoke on a low voice, too tired to really put an effort into speaking.
"I'm gonna go shower, you should probably wake up soon" Bruce said before exiting the room and heading to the bathroom.
These past two days have been extremely eye-opening. Bruce was a highly reserved person, and Clark was intrigued by him. Since their talk yesterday Clark has been pondering on ways to get closer to Bruce. Maybe he was intrigued, but he was gonna find a way to bond with Bruce.
He got ready for the day in the guest bathroom while Bruce occupied the one in their room. Clark was looking at himself in the bedroom mirror when he heard the bathroom door open, he turned around and was greeted by the sight in nothing but a towel around his waist.
"Oh! Sorry" Clark turned around quickly, his cheeks suddenly flushed red. He had never seen Bruce like this, he was usually fully clothed.
"Don't worry, I'll go change in the bathroom" Bruce grabbed the clothes from his respective drawer and headed back into the bathroom.
The image of Bruce's body was engraved in his mind. His body resembled that of a fighter; not too muscular but lean enough for his abs to be in beautiful display. Clark stood frozen for a few seconds; replaying the moment. He snapped out when he realized Bruce would probably come out soon and see him standing there. He sat on the couch and pretended to look at his phone until Bruce arrived.
"Ready to go?" Clark asked
"Yeah, let's go"
This first few days at Long Bury Death are about assessing what they're dealing with and getting to know the staff. Today their task was to familiarize themselves with their respective department and report back to each other. Once they were each in their respective departments Clark headed up on the elevator towards the journalism floor.
The hallways held this air of importance, just like The Justice League Headquarters. Clark dried his hands in his shirt as he prepared to meet his new colleagues. The room behind it was filled with desks and people walking around, just like the The Daily Planet.
"Hello there handsome" a tall man that was merely a few inches shorter than Clark spoke, his body was lean and his hair shined with a fiery color.
"Oh hi" Clark answered as he extended his hand towards the man.
"I'm Wesley, the head writer in the Long Bury Death Magazine" the man introduced himself as he shook Clark's hand.
"A pleasure to meet you"
"Same here, let me show you to your desk" They walked around the beautifully decorated desks. Until they arrived at one that stood out due to its vast simplicity. "Here is yours"
"Thank you, anything else I should be worried about?" Clark asked.
"We'll send you an email regarding all the little details, and we will have a meeting later today to meet the team" Wesley said while inspecting Clark from top to bottom. "Do I know you from somewhere?"
"You might have seen me in one of the Daily Planet by-lines" he answered almost mechanically, it usually works.
"Huh… Well then, I'll leave you to settle down" Wesley said before disappeared into the maze cubicles.
Clark was left to ponder on this new job, and all the hidden mysteries this place seemed to hold.
