This was the winning entry in the contest to celebrate the opening of the Simplon Alpine tunnel in 1906, which first provided a direct link between Paris and Milan. It is one of Metlicovitz’s most famous and inspired designs, the red of the engine’s light emphasizing the movement of the train out of the tunnel. This is the smaller format with Italian text.

The Cholitas Escaladoras are redefining what a mountaineer looks like. These inspiring Indigenous Aymara women from Bolivia have captured global attention by conquering some of the highest peaks in the Andes—including Argentina’s formidable Mount Aconcagua. What makes their climbs even more remarkable is their refusal to leave their heritage behind; they summit these icy peaks proudly wearing their traditional, voluminous polleras (skirts) and customary attire.

Their journey began in 2015. After years of working in the background as cooks and porters for male climbers, a group of these women decided it was time to scale the summits themselves, starting with Bolivia's Huayna Potosí. By trading the sidelines for the peaks, the Cholitas Escaladoras are shattering stereotypes, reclaiming their Indigenous culture, and proving to the world that strength and capability come in many forms.
