On the right, Fig. 2 depicts Loligo vulgaris, the European squid, with a more elongated, tapered orange-red body and smooth skin covered in small dots. Its tentacles spread wide, showing suction cups underneath. Both squids have prominent, rounded eyes and distinct head and mantle shapes, highlighting anatomical differences between the two species. The background is plain beige with German scientific labels.
