But only because it will prove to James that it’s time to actually settle on a house.” They certainly didn’t have room for a baby garage in the apartment and the bigger Charlie got, the more she realized that they needed to own up to out growing the apartment. “It’s my experience that the more you deny something, the more ardently a Madden will desire it,” Michael commented with a grin, shrugging as if it was simply a matter of fact. “So I agree with Jackie, we should get a whole collection. In different colors, so he can figure out what color is his,” he continued, completely backing Jackie’s proposal. He knew Cecilia wasn’t going to be happy about it, but not truly mad about it either. Possibly.
“Christmas is right around the corner,” he commented a moment later, pretending to look at his watch. Jackie’s question, however, distracted him from the topic, and this time his smile was softer as he shook his head. “Caught me completely off guard.” At Cecilia’s comment, however, he gave a laugh and pretended to wipe his forehead. “Good, I’m not the only one, then.”
Another grin crossed his lips before he could help it. “The good parts about making them, or about having them?”

It was that last part that didn’t catch up to her brain for several moments. “Wait, what?” she eased her body forward, carefully, slowly standing up from the bed. She was still a little unsteady, but all too focused on the topic to realize. “I don’t - wh - what’s going on? What do you mean? How?”

He knew he could hardly escape explanations now, but when she stood, he automatically stepped in to help her stay on her still unstable feet. “You were hurt, so I had to give you my blood,” he explained, trying to keep everything as simple as possible. He was already anticipating the new wave of emotions that were going to hit him in response to this. “When vampires willingly let humans drink their blood, it creates... a bond. An emotional bond,” he took a deep breath, and realized his hand was holding her arm a little too tightly so he loosened his grip. “That’s why I never do it.”
