✩ "Do you know what today is?" Seun asks Ryu, one cool, slightly drizzly morning in spring. He'd been lost in his own thoughts as he watched her tend to the garden they'd planted together in the fall.

A little gust of wind makes him clutch the umbrella he's holding over them a little tighter, but he's still not sure why she's asking him this question. "...Our day off?"

His answer makes her laugh, and she glances up at him at the same moment the sun peeks out of the clouds, making her eyes sparkle. She glances away just as quickly, her cheeks slightly flushed.

"Well, yes," she says, reaching out absently to catch some raindrops in her palm. "But it's also the twenty-fifth of April, Ryu! That means it's been a whole year since you first stumbled into that kitchen and scared me half-to-death!"

"Oh," Ryu says, feeling his own cheeks heat up a little. He's sure it must be true, but it still doesn't quite feel possible. "Really? A year? That's hard to believe."

"Really!" Seun says, laughing again. "I'll never forget it."

A year ago, he didn't know if he'd even stick around, but now... Now, there's no place he'd rather be than here, with her.

✩ "Do you know what today is?" Ryu asks Seun, one cool, slightly drizzly morning in spring. He's holding an umbrella over her again, smiling as she points out another weed so their son can pluck it out of the dirt.

"Wednesday!" the little boy shouts, eager to offer an answer as he peers up at his father.

"Well, that too," Ryu agrees, kneeling down so he can wipe a smudge of dirt off his cheek. "But it's also a special day. Do you know why?"

"Cake?" he asks, hopeful. Seun laughs aloud, and Ryu joins in.

"I can make a cake," Seun concedes, resting a hand on Ryu's shoulder as she leans in closer. "Especially for such a special occasion."

Their son's little brow furrows up as Seun lifts him off the ground to press a soft kiss to his temple, and Ryu reaches out to ruffle up his soft, silvery-white hair.

"As of today, it's been ten years since I first met your mom, Rin," he tells him. Rin's eyes widen as he looks at his hands, and Ryu grins as he sees his son consider that math.
